Proposal to amend and supersede ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/9 to supplement the 01 series of amendments to UN R144. New provisions address vehicles of category X and those equipped with an Automated Driving System. Vehicles of category Y are exempted. Amendments clarify AECS control accessibility for occupants in vehicles with ADS feature of type 2, define ADS feature types, update exclusions, and modify hands-free audio performance requirements for drivers or passengers as applicable.

Proposal from the GRSG task force on Automated Vehicles Regulation Screening to exempt ADS vehicles of subcategory Y from the requirements and to adapt the requirements for application to ADS vehicles, including vehicles of subcategory X. The proposal relies on the establishment of requirements for ADS vehicles to define specifications for ADS performance while an ADS feature is active.
