The initial regulations for Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning and Advanced Driver Distraction Warning systems were adopted at GRSG-130 and WP.29-198. DDADWS is developing 01 series regulations, with workshops and online meetings planned. The group seeks a mandate extension to October 2028 to complete 01 series development, with proposed submission for approval to GRSG-136.

Proposal to extend the mandate of the DDADWS informal group until October 2028 to enable development of new (01) series of amendments to the original texts of the driver drowsiness and driver distraction warning systems regulations.

Proposal to correct cross-references in UN R73. The amendments modify paragraphs 12.1, 15.1, and Annex 3, paragraph 2.4 to replace incorrect paragraph citations with accurate ones. Proposal to amend UN R169 by inserting definitions for non-volatile and volatile memory, and modifying the Last Stop trigger criteria. The amendment allows threshold criterion (a) data to be written to volatile memory only, transferring to non-volatile memory when other triggers occur or the master control switch deactivates. This reduces memory wear in vehicles with frequent stops exceeding 20 seconds.

CLIV is developing a new UN Regulation for vehicle categories M1, M2, M3, and N1 in Phase 2. The draft regulation requires visual and audible external warnings upon detection of a child left in a vehicle. Visual warnings use direction indicator lamps flashing in SOS morse code pattern for at least 15 seconds, then off for no more than 30 seconds, repeating for at least 10 minutes. Audible warnings must exceed 60dB(A) following the same timing pattern. The IWG requests guidance on potential amendments to UN R48, UN R28, and UN R165.

Five documents propose amendments to UN R46 series 02-07 to align requirements with UN R26 and UN R61, particularly regarding soft parts of camera monitoring systems and mirrors based on Shore A hardness. The 05 series introduced alignment requirements; harmonization is proposed for earlier series with existing approvals.

Proposal to amend UN R158 to include category O vehicles (trailers) within the scope of regulations for devices enabling driver awareness of vulnerable road users during reversing. The amendment aims to reduce safety risks to vulnerable road users when category O vehicles reverse. Amendments modify title, paragraphs 1.1, 1.2, 1.4, 12.3, 12.4, and Annex 4, and introduce transitional provisions starting from September 2028. Justification includes casualty data showing seven fatalities and 15 serious injuries over 10 years from vehicles towing trailers reversing into vulnerable road users, plus a coroner’s recommendation for reversing cameras on all vehicles.

The document highlights WP.29 sessions from November 2025 and March 2026. Topics include mirror foils on vehicles requiring multi-working party coordination, categorization difficulties for three-wheeled dump trucks under R.E.3, and promotion of global representation in officer elections for WP.29 and subsidiary groups. Proposal to amend GRSG/2026/30. This document proposes amendments to UN Regulation No. 46 to clarify definitions and requirements for devices for indirect vision. The amendments include revised definitions of external original surface, protruding supports, housing, and arm; clarifications to paragraphs 6.1.1.10 and 6.2.1.4 regarding projection limits in folded positions; modifications to paragraph 15.2.4.9.2 concerning obstruction and horizon visibility; and amendments to paragraph 16.1.1.3.1 addressing safety-related rearward indirect vision information.

Proposal to clarify opaque obscuration in indirect vision devices. The proposal inserts a definition of opaque obscuration and amends paragraph 15.1.4 to correct a reference to UN R43, Annex 24 rather than Annex 21. Paragraph 15.2.4.9.1 is amended to exclude areas of opaque obscuration from obstruction calculations for Class I rear-view devices, treating them similarly to mandatory rubber sealings used for window mounting.

The IWG on EDR/DSSAD developed draft proposals for Event Data Recorder for conventional and automated/autonomous vehicles and Data Storage System for Automated Driving. Completed work includes UN R160 on light duty vehicle EDR, UN R169 on heavy duty vehicle EDR, and DSSAD requirements. Current activities address EDR Step 2 and DSSAD Phase 2. The IWG resolved assessment subjectiveness for vehicles with maximum mass up to 12t through a proposed Supplement 2 to UN R169.

For UN R159, the proposal introduces a universal functional block structure separating Detection, Control, and Human Machine Interface functions, with Component or Separate Technical Unit fulfilling Detection and Control as minimum requirements. The regulation is restructured into three parts: vehicles without approved Component or Separate Technical Unit, vehicles with approved Component or Separate Technical Unit, and Component or Separate Technical Unit specifications. Vehicles of category X without a driver’s seat and vehicles of category Y are exempted. Vehicles equipped with an ADS must comply when operated manually by a driver on-board from a driver’s seat. Field of Vision Assistant systems must comply with requirements except when the vehicle is parked or performing the Dynamic Driving Task while an ADS feature is active.

Proposal to amend and supersede document ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2025/18 as amended by GRSG-130-66 Rev. 2. This document amends and supersedes those documents. Supplement ² to the 02 series of amendments to UN R39 is introduced to account for vehicles of categories X and Y, as well as vehicles with manual mode operating at speeds above 6 km/h equipped with an Automated Driving System Feature of Type 2. Testing provisions are modified for ADS-equipped vehicles, including steering equipment actuation at maximum performance allowed by the ADS.

Proposal to supplement 01 Series of Amendments to UN R116. Supplement 4 extends application to vehicles of category X and Y, and vehicles with manual mode operating above 6 km/h equipped with Automated Driving System. New definitions added for ADS feature of type 1 and type 2. Device to prevent unauthorized use definition amended to include locking steering, transmission, gearshift control, or brakes. Immobilizer setting requirements modified. Annex 11 requirements do not apply during remote-control manoeuvring and remote-control parking under UN R79, for vehicles of categories X and Y, or when ADSF-2 is activated by authorized registered digital key.

The supplement accounts for vehicles of categories X and Y, and vehicles with manual mode operating above 6 km/h equipped with an Automated Driving System. Scope updated: Regulation does not apply to vehicles of category Y (no occupants inside) or category X without on-board manual mode. New definition of “Safety Concept” added. Proposal to amend UN Regulation No. 122 (Heating Systems). The 01 series of amendments takes into account vehicles of categories X and Y and aligns provisions in Annex 5 for all occupants. Surface temperature limits for heating systems apply equally to drivers and passengers regardless of seat position or vehicle category, with special care for rear seats of M₁ vehicles. Manufacturers may justify higher temperatures through a safety concept demonstrating no increased burn risk. Transitional provisions allow type approvals under preceding series until 1 September 2028. The proposal amends and supersedes ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/7.

Proposal for Supplement 1 to the 03 Series of Amendments to UN R125 (Forward Field of Vision), amending and superseding ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/8. The proposal introduces provisions for vehicles of categories X and Y, and vehicles equipped with an Automated Driving System (ADS). Vehicles of category Y without a driver are exempt from the Regulation. For vehicles of category X with manual driving modes, different provisions apply depending on operation method: remote-control operation is exempt; seated operation follows general provisions; and on-board operation not using a driver’s seat may use alternative requirements demonstrating equivalent safety levels.

Proposal to amend and supersede ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/9 to supplement the 01 series of amendments to UN R144. New provisions address vehicles of category X and those equipped with an Automated Driving System. Vehicles of category Y are exempted. Amendments clarify AECS control accessibility for occupants in vehicles with ADS feature of type 2, define ADS feature types, update exclusions, and modify hands-free audio performance requirements for drivers or passengers as applicable.

Proposal to amend UN R151 (Blind Spot Information Systems) to account for vehicles of categories X and Y equipped with an Automated Driving System. BSIS is required to work when a driver is in control; vehicles of category Y and vehicles of category X without a manual mode intended to be operated on-board the vehicle are not required to comply. Vehicles of category X with a manual mode operated on-board not using a driver’s seat may be approved using alternative requirements demonstrating equivalent safety. The proposal amends scope, definitions, and approval marking provisions. This proposal amends and supersedes ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/10.

Proposal to amend and supersede ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/11. Supplement 6 to UN R158 amends provisions for means of rear visibility and detection. The Regulation is amended to account for vehicles of categories X and Y. Vehicles of category Y and vehicles of category X without manual mode intended to be operated on-board are exempted. Vehicles equipped with Automated Driving Systems must comply when operated manually by a driver on-board. Alternative provisions apply for category X vehicles with manual operation other than seated in driver’s seat.

Proposal to amend UN R159 to insert new paragraphs 0.8. and 0.8.1. to 0.8.32. addressing vehicles of categories X and Y with Automated Driving Systems. The Regulation is amended to clarify that Moving Off Information Systems are only required when a driver is in control and that vehicles without manual driver control capability are not required to comply. Paragraph 1.1. is amended to apply to vehicles of categories M₂, M₃, N₂ and N₃. Paragraph 1.3. is amended to exempt vehicles of category Y and vehicles of category X without manual on-board operation capability. Various other paragraphs and annexes are amended accordingly. This proposal amends and supersedes ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/12.

New paragraphs define ADS feature of type 1 and type 2. Paragraph 2.5. is amended to specify device to prevent unauthorized use requirements. Paragraph 4.3.2. is amended to exclude requirements during remote-control manoeuvring and remote-control parking as defined in UN R79, for vehicles of categories X and Y, or when an ADSF-2 is activated by an authorized registered digital key.

Supplement 6 addresses vehicles of category X and Y, as well as vehicles with manual mode operating above 6 km/h equipped with an Automated driving System. The amendment intends to keep the spirit of the Regulation while extending application to vehicles without a driver and without manual driving controls. Vehicles equipped with an ADS must comply when operated manually by a driver on-board. Three manual modes are considered: remote-control operation near the vehicle (exempted), seated operation in driver’s seat (general provisions apply), and on-board operation other than seated (alternative provisions apply). Regulation applies to vehicles of categories M₂, M₃, N₂ and N₃. New definitions and approval mark arrangements are introduced. This document is intended to amend and supersede document ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2026/24.

Proposal to correct the wording in UN R43 (Safety Glazing). The expert from the European Association of Automotive Suppliers proposes amending paragraph 8.2.1.1. to modify a table listing tests for windscreens and glass panes of various types, including toughened glass, ordinary laminated glass, treated laminated glass, and glass-plastics. The amendment corrects the title of the optical distortion test listed in the table.

Proposal to amend UN Regulation No. 121 by inserting new paragraph 5.2.1.1 stating that fonts shown in Table 1 are not intended to be restrictive and other fonts may be substituted if legibility is maintained. Table 1, Note No. 20 is amended to clarify that the font of letters “OFF” or “ESC OFF” is not intended to be restrictive. The purpose is to clarify the text, provide flexibility, harmonize with international standards, and adapt to current digital work tools.

Proposal to amend UN Regulation No. 39 (Speedometer and odometer) to introduce software update references and identification. New provisions add definitions regarding Software Identification Number, refer to Consolidated Resolution on the Construction of Vehicles (R.E.3), Annex 7, paragraph 2. Modifications address production definitively discontinued, software updates for registered vehicles, hardware and software information provision, vehicle approval for differentiating software versions, and additional information regarding software identification. The proposal references ECE/TRANS/WP.29/1175, paragraph 37, and incorporates provisions from R.E.3 Annex 7 to define R39SWIN as dedicated identifier representing type-approval relevant software information.

Door-opening collision accidents between motor vehicles and vulnerable road users occur frequently and pose serious risks to road traffic safety. No mandatory UN Regulation or Global Technical Regulation for Door Opening Warning Systems exists internationally, resulting in regional inconsistencies. A virtual kick-off workshop was held on 1 April with participation from contracting parties and stakeholders. The workshop reviewed accident data from Germany and China, discussed potential technical parameters for DOWS, and identified the need for broader international data collection. Further workshops are envisaged pending availability of substantive new input.

Proposal to exempt ADS vehicles of subcategories X and Y from requirements related to the presence of a human driver and manual driving controls. The proposal permits X and Y vehicles to use alternative materials for windscreens given their 6 kph speed restriction. The proposal further permits translucence levels below 70% for ADS vehicles while an ADS feature is active (i.e., performing the DDT).

Proposal to require driver signals to be transmitted to the ADS and to introduce provisions for assessing ADS responses to the signals.

The 5° datum point has never been used for any technical requirements beyond serving as a reference point, while the 4° obstruction requirement has prior precedent. As this is a vehicle rather than component requirement, the datum point is also proposed for deletion from UN R43, retaining it solely in UN R125.

Proposal to amend UN R167 to address Automated Driving Systems (ADS), exempting category Y vehicles and category X vehicles without a manual on-board mode from the regulation’s scope, while requiring ADS-equipped vehicles to comply when operated manually. Additional amendments update references to the three-dimensional H-point machine per Mutual Resolution No. 1, and revise approval marking provisions to remove the Unique Identifier option.
