The initial regulations for Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning and Advanced Driver Distraction Warning systems were adopted at GRSG-130 and WP.29-198. DDADWS is developing 01 series regulations, with workshops and online meetings planned. The group seeks a mandate extension to October 2028 to complete 01 series development, with proposed submission for approval to GRSG-136.

Proposal to amend UN R169 by inserting definitions for non-volatile and volatile memory, and modifying the Last Stop trigger criteria. The amendment allows threshold criterion (a) data to be written to volatile memory only, transferring to non-volatile memory when other triggers occur or the master control switch deactivates. This reduces memory wear in vehicles with frequent stops exceeding 20 seconds.

CLIV is developing a new UN Regulation for vehicle categories M1, M2, M3, and N1 in Phase 2. The draft regulation requires visual and audible external warnings upon detection of a child left in a vehicle. Visual warnings use direction indicator lamps flashing in SOS morse code pattern for at least 15 seconds, then off for no more than 30 seconds, repeating for at least 10 minutes. Audible warnings must exceed 60dB(A) following the same timing pattern. The IWG requests guidance on potential amendments to UN R48, UN R28, and UN R165.

Five documents propose amendments to UN R46 series 02-07 to align requirements with UN R26 and UN R61, particularly regarding soft parts of camera monitoring systems and mirrors based on Shore A hardness. The 05 series introduced alignment requirements; harmonization is proposed for earlier series with existing approvals.

Proposal to amend UN R158 to include category O vehicles (trailers) within the scope of regulations for devices enabling driver awareness of vulnerable road users during reversing. The amendment aims to reduce safety risks to vulnerable road users when category O vehicles reverse. Proposal to clarify opaque obscuration in indirect vision devices. The proposal inserts a definition of opaque obscuration and amends paragraph 15.1.4 to correct a reference to UN R43, Annex 24 rather than Annex 21. Paragraph 15.2.4.9.1 is amended to exclude areas of opaque obscuration from obstruction calculations for Class I rear-view devices, treating them similarly to mandatory rubber sealings used for window mounting.

Proposal to exempt ADS vehicles of subcategories X and Y from requirements related to the presence of a human driver and manual driving controls. The proposal permits X and Y vehicles to use alternative materials for windscreens given their 6 kph speed restriction. The proposal further permits translucence levels below 70% for ADS vehicles while an ADS feature is active (i.e., performing the DDT).

Proposal to remove subjectivity and clarify manufacturer requirements for demonstrating equally effective triggering performance in vehicles with a maximum mass between 8,000 and 12,000 kg.

Proposal to align UN R43 with a proposed amendment to UN R125 (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2026/23), which resolves a longstanding inconsistency between the lower datum point definition (§5.1.1.3) and the obstruction requirement (§5.1.3) by harmonizing the lower datum point angle from 5° to 4°.

Proposal to resolve a longstanding inconsistency in UN R125 between the lower datum point (§5.1.1.3, set at 5°) and the obstruction requirement (§5.1.3, set at 4°), by aligning the lower datum point to 4° while retaining upper and lateral aspects of §5.1.1. unchanged. The 5° datum point has never been used for any technical requirements beyond serving as a reference point, while the 4° obstruction requirement has prior precedent. As this is a vehicle rather than component requirement, the datum point is also proposed for deletion from UN R43, retaining it solely in UN R125.

Proposal to amend UN R167 to address Automated Driving Systems (ADS), exempting category Y vehicles and category X vehicles without a manual on-board mode from the regulation’s scope, while requiring ADS-equipped vehicles to comply when operated manually. Additional amendments update references to the three-dimensional H-point machine per Mutual Resolution No. 1, and revise approval marking provisions to remove the Unique Identifier option.
