The current text of Annex 3 of UN Regulation No. 79 covers requirements to be met in case the braking and the steering systems have the same energy source (paragraph 5.3.1.4.), and the same energy supply (paragraph 5.3.1.5.). However these requirements are not aligned with those of Regulation No. 13-H. Paragraph 1.1.2. of Annex 4 to Regulation No. 13-H requires the capacity of a certain number of sudden stops after the energy source failed ONLY in the case where the secondary braking performances cannot be met without energy assisting the muscular energy: see paragraph 1.1.2.

The current text of Annex 3 of Regulation No. 79 covers requirements to be met in case the braking and the steering systems have the same energy source (paragraph 5.3.1.4), and the same energy supply (paragraph 5.3.1.5.). This is a copy of the proposal submitted to the GRRF (i.e., document GRRF-78-14) to introduce lane-keeping assistance systems (LKAS) into the UN Regulation No. 79. In particular, this relates to the current UN R79 provision that limits automatic steering functions from operating at speeds above 10 km/h.

This is a copy of the document prepared during the third LKAS ad hoc group session (document LKAS-03-09) proposing refinements to the draft amendment to UN R79 that would enable the type approval of lane-keeping systems that incorporate automatic steering functions operating above 10 km/h (document GRRF-78-14).

Discussions have arisen within GRRF concerning failure warnings for trailer direction indicators and brake lights. This paper alerts GRE to the absence of a standardized approach to communicating such lighting failures for trailers which may be a subject for consideration under UN R48.

Proposal to adapt UN R79 in line with the proposed addition of camera-monitor systems to UN R46 (indirect vision). UN R79 refers to external mirrors in test procedures involving the vehicle turning circle. This proposal replaces the reference to mirrors with a broader reference to “indirect vision devices” that includes CMS.

Status of ITS/AD Informal Group consideration of guidance for WP.29 working parties on the regulation of automated driving technologies, especially concerning automatically commanded steering under UN R79.

Proposal to develop regulatory provisions that would enable the approval of automated steering systems (i.e., systems that control vehicle lateral movement) that operate at speeds higher than 10 km/h. The proposal originates from discussions on lane-keeping assistance systems and on automated driving.

Amendment to specify the connector through which electrical energy is supplied in the proposal to remove certain design restrictions that impede the application of new technologies, especially related to trailer power steering systems and the use of energy from the towing vehicle.

This proposal is presented by the Chair of the Lane Keeping Assistance System (LKAS) adhoc group in order to improve the wording of document ECE/TRANS/WP.29 /GRRF/2015/2, and to resolve pending questions with regard to the warning provision. The group was not able to achieve consensus on the application dates of the amendments (wording remaining in square brackets).

This proposal of the IGCMS-II amends the provisions on steering equipment according Regulation 79 to include vehicles equipped with devices for indirect vision such as camera-monitor devices. Various steering effort test provisions depend on the turning circle which currently excludes external mirrors. The text is amended to exclude as well external camera’s for camera-monitor devices. The proposal would replace the reference to rear-view mirrors with the term “devices for indirect vision” to encompass exterior CMS devices.
