Proposal for camera-monitor systems amendment to UN Regulation No. 79

This proposal of the IGCMS-II amends the provisions on steering equipment according Regulation 79 to include vehicles equipped with devices for indirect vision such as camera-monitor devices. Various steering effort test provisions depend on the turning circle which currently excludes external mirrors. The text is amended to exclude as well external camera’s for camera-monitor devices. The proposal would replace the reference to rear-view mirrors with the term “devices for indirect vision” to encompass exterior CMS devices.

28. The expert from the Netherlands introduced ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2015/12 proposing to also align the provisions of UN Regulation No. 79 (Steering equipment) with the new CMS provisions. GRSG endorsed the document and requested the secretariat to transmit the proposal to the Working Party on Brakes and Running Gear (GRRF) for consideration at the September 2015 session as a draft Supplement to the 01 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 79.

52. The Secretary of GRSG introduced ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2015/12, proposing amendments to Regulation No. 79 related to the recent adoption of a Supplement to Regulation No. 43 introducing Camera-Monitoring-Systems. GRRF adopted the proposal.

53. GRRF requested the secretariat to submit both adopted proposals to WP.29 and AC.1 for consideration at their June 2016 sessions, as Supplement 5 to the 01 series of amendments to Regulation No. 79.
