CLEPA changes to its earlier proposal (GRSG/2012/4) proposing revisions to a Dutch proposal (GRSG/2011/23) that would enable the replacement of mirrors by camera monitor systems.

CLEPA comments on the OICA proposal for Supplement 3 to the 01 series of amendments to Regulation No. 43 (document GRSG/2014/14) that seeks to avoid imposing administrative burdens on small glazing that is not required for the driver’s forward or rearward field of vision.

This proposal corrects an editorial mistake in the tolerances of Annex 6. In Annex 10, paragraph 3.2.2.2. and in Annex 12, paragraph 3.2.2., the correct tolerance should read: 1.5m +0/-5mm. (The same tolerances also appear in UN GTR No. 6, paragraphs 5.4.3. and 6.5.4.2.)

OICA and CLEPA comments on the Korean proposal to amend GTR No. 6 and UN Regulation No. 43 in response to issues identified in its defect investigation concerning panoramic sunroofs.

Correction to clarify that the scope of the GTR covers windscreens and panes for cars and trucks and to harmonize the text with ISO 3537/ UN R43. The present text could be read to limit the scope of windscreens and double window panes.

Proposal for an amendment to UN Regulation No. 43 to define a “reduced vision zone I” for vehicles of categories M and N other than M1. The goal is to extend the concept that already exists for M1 vehicles in order to enable the installation of sensors and cameras that improve driving safety.

Proposal to replace the current Figure 2a with a more accurate drawing reflecting the meaning of paragraph 2.4.2.2 of the regulation. The new drawing addresses the lateral limits of any opaque obscuration of the window area.

The Special Interest Group on Component & Separate Technical Unit (SIG-C&STU) for the Supplement of UN Regulations 151, 158, 159 and 166. Proposal adds Component and Separate Technical Units (STU) approvals requirements.

The Special Interest Group on Component & Separate Technical Units (SIG-C&STU) proposes amendments to UN R159, UN R158, UN R151, and UN R166 to add Component and Separate Technical Unit approvals. For UN R159, the proposal introduces a universal functional block structure separating Detection, Control, and Human Machine Interface functions, with Component or Separate Technical Unit fulfilling Detection and Control as minimum requirements. The regulation is restructured into three parts: vehicles without approved Component or Separate Technical Unit, vehicles with approved Component or Separate Technical Unit, and Component or Separate Technical Unit specifications. UN R158 adds new devices for Rear-View Camera Systems and Detection Systems to Part I, with corresponding installation requirements in Part II. The group requests written comments within four weeks and plans submission to Working Party 29 in June 2026.

Proposal to correct the wording in UN R43 (Safety Glazing). The expert from the European Association of Automotive Suppliers proposes amending paragraph 8.2.1.1. to modify a table listing tests for windscreens and glass panes of various types, including toughened glass, ordinary laminated glass, treated laminated glass, and glass-plastics. The amendment corrects the title of the optical distortion test listed in the table.

Status report on the Special Interest Group on Component & Separate Technical Unit work on UN R158 and UN R159. The SIG-C&STU is developing proposals to add Component and Separate Technical Unit approval routes to UN R151, UN R158, UN R159, and UN R166. For UN R159, Supplement 4 is under review with documents at GRSG-132. For UN R158, a Proposal for Supplement 7 is in development. The group requests feedback on structural approaches and timelines for working document submissions by January 2027.

Proposal to introduce provisions for type approval of Moving Off Information System (MOIS) Component and Separate Technical Unit (STU) by establishing three approval pathways: Part I for vehicles with MOIS, Part II for vehicles with installation of approved MOIS Component or STU, and Part III for MOIS Component or STU themselves. The system detects pedestrians and cyclists in the forward blind spot area and provides information and collision warning signals during low-speed moving off manoeuvres at speeds of 10 km/h or less. Technical requirements cover detection performance for speeds 3–5 km/h for potential moving off and 0–10 km/h for low-speed operation, automatic deactivation on system failure or sensor contamination, manual deactivation through intentional driver actions, and signals that are deactivated together upon failure. Test procedures include static crossing tests, longitudinal stopping and moving off cyclist tests, and failure detection tests performed on flat dry asphalt under natural illumination conditions.

Proposal to introduce provisions for type approval of Moving Off Information System Component and Separate Technical Unit. The supplement adds Part III to UN R159 establishing approval requirements for MOIS Components and STUs, modifies Part I to align with the new component-based approval pathway, and adds Part II to govern vehicles installing previously approved Components or STUs. Manufacturers may choose between Component approval (largely vehicle-independent) or STU approval (tailored to specific vehicle families) to streamline market introduction of MOIS technology.

The changes do not affect the content stringency and keep current UN R158 type approvals valid. The proposal replaces the complete UN Regulation text due to the number of changes required, incorporating text merged from Supplements 1 to 6 into the original text, with tracked changes and comments marking modifications outside the direct scope of the SIG-C&STU typical for clarity, corrections or consistency items which shall not affect stringency.
