Proposal to introduce requirements for replaceable light-emitting diode (LED) light sources for forward lighting in the new Regulation on Road Illumination Devices (RID). As the Informal Working Group “Simplification of the Lighting and Light-Signalling Regulations” (IWG SLR) continues working on the new RID Regulation, it is not possible to indicate all detailed modifications that will be required to incorporate the replaceable LED light sources for forward lighting. However, in general, only simple editorial changes will be required. Further work is required to identify the changes that will be required in the annexes.

The proposal opens the opportunity to project driver assistance symbols on the road ahead the vehicle as part of the Adaptive Driving Beam by introducing angular limits for the placement of these projections as well as luminous intensity limits in order to guarantee a good perceptibility of the symbols for the driver at night time without distracting other road users.

Proposal to clarify the markings. Some countries and regions refer to the requirements of the 00 series of amendments to UN R149, or to older regulations. In order to avoid the redundant burden to mark the symbols of both the 00 and 01 series on the lamp (e.g., “HCR” or “HR and C”), the proposal would allow for consistency of the symbols between the 00 and the 01 series of amendments. UN R149 also includes passing-beam requirements designed to provide symmetrical “cut-off” line: the proposal introduces examples in Annex 13.

Proposal aims to amend failure detection and signalisation requirements to reflect technological progress in multiple light sources. This amendment proposes to include in UN Regulation No. 149 different provisions allowing that a failure signal is only triggered when a significant change in the beam is detected and ensuring that the most suitable failure provision can be applied. This proposal intends to rectify the inconsistency between UN Regulation No. 149, (both original version and 01 series of amendments) and the frozen UN Regulations (namely UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123) by aligning the measurement points for the mechanical deterioration test. The deletion of measuring point HV, for the passing-beam headlamps, does not change any technical requirement since there are no photometric values specified for point HV in the UN Regulation No. 149, both in the original version and in the 01 series of amendments.

Proposal aims to correct COP Tables. the maximum luminous intensity of Segment BLL for Class V (see Tables 6 and 7) was intentionally changed from 880 cd (as in UN Regulation No. 123 and in the original series of amendments of UN
Regulation No. 149) to 625 cd (as in the 01 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 149). The purpose of this modification was to align the value with Class C but, by mistake, this change was not reflected in the COP Tables 25 and 26

In UN R149-00, corrections include: deletion of erroneous maximum values at point 50L in CoP tables for Classes C, V and W Bend Light; correction of miscalculated 20% and 30% CoP minimum values for Classes C and V Bend Light Category 1; correction of the Class W non-bending mode maximum value at Segment 10 and its derived CoP values; and correction of rounding errors in Class R CoP minimum values.

In UN R149-01, corrections include: updating the Class W Bend Light CoP maximum at point BR to align with the type-approval table; correcting miscalculated Class R Bend Lighting CoP values; and fixing table note references in Annex 4 following the introduction of scientific notation in the 01 series.

Proposal to clarify the 80% failure criterion for Conformity of Production (CoP) checks by confirming that CoP tables represent a simplified subset of the full Class C type-approval measurement points, and to exclude overhead requirements (items S50 and S100 in Tables 6 and 7) from the passing beam failure detection criterion, as these may be fulfilled by position lamps.
