UN IWG CLIV workshop briefing on ISO/WD 26315 status. The working draft specifies child presence detection surrogates with geometric, optical, near-infrared, radar-related and physiological properties representing newborn to 6-year-old children. Core clauses and three normative annexes address surrogate classes, dimensional tables, visual and near-infrared recognition properties, and radar-specific recognition properties. Open technical decisions include radar bands by region, respiration data by surrogate class, motion requirements as mandatory versus optional, optical and near-infrared clothing details, validation methods and measurement procedures, and dimensional alignment with Euro NCAP standards. |

Proposal to establish requirements for in-direct plus or direct sensing systems to detect children left unattended in M1 and N1 vehicles under 3,500 kg. Systems shall detect Child Occupants Left Inside (CLIV) events for rear seating positions accommodating child restraint systems and issue audible or audible and visual warnings at least 60 dB(A) within 15–30 seconds of locking all doors, lasting at least 10 seconds and repeating every 90 seconds for at least 20 minutes unless cancelled. The default system setting shall be ON, with deactivation available temporarily for single journeys or long-term for maximum 30 days. Testing shall use CLIV surrogates aged 0, 3, and 6 years per ISO 26315, covering multiple test scenarios including warning delay, cancellation, and temporary deactivation. |

The 21st IWG CLIV Session agenda for 8–11 September 2026 at UTAC Autodrome de Linas-Montlhry, France, focuses four meeting days on light vehicles. Drafting work with demonstrations occurs throughout the week. Day 1 includes introduction, official welcome, agenda adoption, progress summary, group photo, drafting regulatory text for LVs, research presentation on hot cars, and vehicle demonstration. Days 2–4 comprise drafting sessions for UNR for LVs, presentations including ISO WG on surrogate progression and vehicle demonstration, with closing remarks each day. The meeting ends 17:00 on Friday 11 September 2026. |

| CPD Systems in Euro NCAP Vehicles |

As of 2025, Euro NCAP only rewards direct sensing systems. Of 113 vehicles rated under the 2025 protocol, 69 were battery electric vehicles. Direct sensing systems increased from 12% in 2024 to 31% in 2025, while indirect systems decreased from 46% to 27%. Overall, 36% of tested vehicles in popular categories were equipped with direct sensing, except superminis. All direct sensing systems cover rear seats; 40% also cover front passenger seats. Of vehicles tested, 60% provide intervention alongside initial and escalation warnings. All vehicles with direct sensing systems are equipped with a battery for propulsion.
