The Homework Team on ADB/AFS status report to the GRE Taskforce “Glare prevention” documenting timeline activities from February to June 2026, including seven HWT meetings and three TFGP sessions. The team listed system descriptions, benefits, disadvantages, conducted literature review, identified elements causing glare, negative effects to ADB/AFS performance, and improvable requirements. The team drafted recommendations addressing enforcement of headlamp cleaning, reduction of 2000lm limit, manual override requirements, improved detection and camera specifications, motorway ADB usage, cleaning systems, beam pattern dimming, and adaptive beam patterns for various driving conditions.

Proposal to amends requirements for LED light source modules and non-replaceable light sources. Amendments specify headlamp and AFS technical specifications including light source module characteristics, electrical interfaces, and photometric values. Requirements for LED light source modules and non-replaceable light sources address design, manufacture, testing conditions, colour rendering, UV-radiation, and objective luminous flux measurement procedures.

The agenda includes corrections to UN R150-01, baseline documents for UN R53, R74, R86, and R48, simplification of paragraphs 6.×.4 and 6.×.5, transitional provisions, harmonisation of requirements, apparent surface considerations, and direction indicator visibility improvements. The next meetings are scheduled for June and December 2026, with a potential September 2026 session in Tokyo.

The HWT analyzed literature and expert knowledge to identify glare causes, performance negative effects, and improvable requirements for ADB/AFS systems. Key issues include wet road conditions, external objects obstructing sensors, soiled headlamps, and insufficient dynamic masking accuracy. Recommendations include improving headlamp cleaning enforcement, enhancing vehicle detection requirements, introducing motorway ADB usage, implementing adaptive cut-off lines, and providing manual override instructions.

roposal to expand the application of glare-free Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) for category L₃ motorcycles under UN R149, by introducing additional driving beam classes aligned with UN R53 motorcycle requirements and adding symmetrical passing beam-based photometric requirements below the H-H line (Table 13, Part C). Recent technological advances have made ADB electronics more practical for a broader range of motorcycles, and these amendments aim to enhance traffic safety by reducing glare while maintaining adequate rider visibility.

Proposal to correct inconsistencies and calculation errors in Conformity of Production (CoP) tables across both series of UN R149, which may otherwise cause confusion for manufacturers and technical services.

In UN R149-00, corrections include: deletion of erroneous maximum values at point 50L in CoP tables for Classes C, V and W Bend Light; correction of miscalculated 20% and 30% CoP minimum values for Classes C and V Bend Light Category 1; correction of the Class W non-bending mode maximum value at Segment 10 and its derived CoP values; and correction of rounding errors in Class R CoP minimum values.

In UN R149-01, corrections include: updating the Class W Bend Light CoP maximum at point BR to align with the type-approval table; correcting miscalculated Class R Bend Lighting CoP values; and fixing table note references in Annex 4 following the introduction of scientific notation in the 01 series.

This proposal intends to rectify the inconsistency between UN Regulation No. 149, (both original version and 01 series of amendments) and the frozen UN Regulations (namely UN Regulations Nos. 98, 112 and 123) by aligning the measurement points for the mechanical deterioration test. The deletion of measuring point HV, for the passing-beam headlamps, does not change any technical requirement since there are no photometric values specified for point HV in the UN Regulation No. 149, both in the original version and in the 01 series of amendments.

Proposal aims to correct COP Tables. the maximum luminous intensity of Segment BLL for Class V (see Tables 6 and 7) was intentionally changed from 880 cd (as in UN Regulation No. 123 and in the original series of amendments of UN
Regulation No. 149) to 625 cd (as in the 01 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 149). The purpose of this modification was to align the value with Class C but, by mistake, this change was not reflected in the COP Tables 25 and 26

In order to avoid the redundant burden to mark the symbols of both the 00 and 01 series on the lamp (e.g., “HCR” or “HR and C”), the proposal would allow for consistency of the symbols between the 00 and the 01 series of amendments. UN R149 also includes passing-beam requirements designed to provide symmetrical “cut-off” line: the proposal introduces examples in Annex 13.
