Proposal aims to make extendible trailers conform to all lateral protection requirements for trailers regardless of length, in order to remove the safety risk to vulnerable road users when the trailer is in the fully extended position. This is achieved by the removal of section 13.1.1. and 16.1.1 that specify some exemptions to requirements when the trailer is extended.

Extension of the scope for the installation of surveillance mirrors and camera-recording devices

Proposal to amend UN R73 on Lateral Protection Devices, amending ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2024/38. The proposal adds safety requirements including a new definition of Blind Spot Information System referencing UN R151. Key modifications lower the minimum height of the lower edge of LPD from 550 mm to 450 mm for most vehicles, while maintaining 550 mm for vehicles with axle distance exceeding 6.5 m. The proposal includes transitional provisions and references GRSG-113-13. Japan and France submitted this based on traffic accident data showing reduced fatalities with lower LPD height requirements.

India proposes formulation of new UN GTR under 1998 agreement for fire protection systems in occupant compartment of IC engine buses of M₃ category Class III based on methodology followed in Indian standard AIS-135 (Parts 3 and 4). The FPS is an inbuilt alarm and protection system based on water mist system installed in occupant compartment to allow evacuation time for bus occupants in case of fire event. India requests GRSG agreement and guidance for addition of this item under listing of candidate for development of new UN GTR.
