Japan submitted a proposal (GRE-69-24) to extend the Regulation No. 48 type approval that will be a part of the IWVTA system to more countries and vehicles. This document supplements that proposal.

Japan examined R48 according to the IWVTA guidelines (WP.29-156-21-Rev.1, page 2: "(ii) whether amendments of the said UN Regulation is necessary or not (Some requirements should be converted into “If fitted” category.)" and found some devices that could be converted from “mandatory” to “optional”, including daytime running lamps, rear fog lamps and headlamp cleaners.
