Proposal of the Informal Group on Plastic Glazing (IGPG) as approved by the GRSG to introduce new provisions for windscreens and for laminated plastic panes other than windscreens.

The main objective of this proposal is to develop an amendment to UN GTR No. 6 on Safety Glazing concerning clarification of the methods (e.g. 227g ball drop test), etc. for testing and evaluating the mechanical strength of toughened glass so that the safety of a panoramic sunroof is assured.

Pursuant to its defect investigations concerning the shattering of certain panoramic sunroofs, Korea proposes the establishment of an informal working group to prepare amendments to UN Regulation No. 43 and GTR No. 6 to specify test methods for evaluating panoramic sunroof glazing.

Proposal for an amendment to UN Regulation No. 43 to define a “reduced vision zone I” for vehicles of categories M and N other than M1. The goal is to extend the concept that already exists for M1 vehicles in order to enable the installation of sensors and cameras that improve driving safety.

OICA and CLEPA comments on the Korean proposal to amend GTR No. 6 and UN Regulation No. 43 in response to issues identified in its defect investigation concerning panoramic sunroofs.

This proposal aims to enable the use of thick glass panes for multiple glazed units which, in turn, requires omitting the head-form test in case of these units.

Paragraph 5.3.1. refers to Appendix 8 of Annex 1. OICA believes that the reference should be to Appendix 10 of Annex 1 and so proposes this correction.

CLEPA proposes to amend the wording of paragraph 5.1. to clarify how to proceed with a test in boiling water, which is permitted for safety glazing with both external surfaces of inorganic material. The tolerance of +0 °C / -2 °C is taken from ISO 3917, high temperature test. The temperature of boiling water can be determined with the required accuracy easily.
