The expert from the Republic of Korea introduced GRSG-107-06, proposing an amendment to the methodology of the 227g ball drop test for toughened glass that would cope with defects of panoramic sunroofs. The experts from CLEPA and OICA provided (GRSG-107-22) comments to the national defect investigation by Korea and the proposed amendments. The expert from the Republic of Korea reiterated his intention (GRSG-106-10) to draft a parallel amendment to UN GTR No. 6 (see para. 41 below). However, he suggested that the development of amendments on both UN Regulation and the UN GTR No. 6 should be carried out by an IWG. Finally, GRSG agreed to seek consent from WP.29 and from the Executive Committee of the 1998 Agreement (AC.3) at their November 2015 sessions to establish the above-mentioned IWG.

23. Referring to the discussion at the March 2014 session of WP.29 (GRSG-106-04), the expert from the Republic of Korea gave a presentation on the result of a national investigation on defects of panoramic sunroofs (GRSG-106-21). In this respect, he proposed an amendment to Global Technical Regulation (GTR) No. 6 on glazing (GRSG-106-10). GRSG noted a number of comments and concerns that the amendments to the drop test were not appropriate. The experts from Canada and Germany were of the opinion that further amendments to the GTR were necessary. Following the discussion, GRSG agreed to keep GRSG-106-10 on the agenda and to resume consideration of this subject at its next session. The Chair invited all experts to send, in the meantime, their comments to the expert from the Republic of Korea (e-mail: katrietf@ts2020.kr). He also invited the experts from Germany and the Republic of Korea to jointly prepare a concrete proposal.

71. Mr. Sokchang Kwon, Director General of the Motor Vehicles Policy Division of the Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Korea gave a presentation on the results of their national defect investigations on panoramic sunroofs (WP.29-162-15). The Chair of GRSG suggested that this topic be investigated further by GRSG experts to determine whether it is necessary to adjust the relevant UN Regulation No. 43 and UN GTR No. 6 on glazing. Thus, he invited the representative of the Republic of Korea to share these findings with GRSG experts during the forthcoming session in May 2014. The representative of the Republic of Korea (Korea Automobile Testing and Research Institute (KATRI)) introduced WP.29-162-22 showing the detailed results of their investigations on safety issues with panoramic sunroofs. The representative of Japan agreed with the suggestion by the Chair of GRSG. Finally, the World Forum requested GRSG to discuss this issue at its forthcoming session in April 2014.
