Copy of the progress report delivered the GRSG during its October 2016 session (as document GRSG-111-32).

Proposal to replace the current Figure 2a with a more accurate drawing reflecting the meaning of paragraph 2.4.2.2 of the regulation. The new drawing addresses the lateral limits of any opaque obscuration of the window area.

The text of the German proposal (document GRSG/2016/21) in the tables in annexes 14 and 16 only refers to small windows as “windows into which a circle of diameter D < 150 mm is capable of being scribed”. OICA proposes to add the criterion of a maximum area limited to 200 cm² in order to align with the definition in paragraph 2.39 (“pane having an area of less than 200 cm² and within which it is not possible to inscribe a circle having a diameter of 150 mm”).

Proposal concerning document GRSG/2015/22 to clarify the specification of the abrasion test machine.

Proposal to align the requirements for plastic panes other than windscreens with the requirements of plastic pane windscreens. This includes amendments concerning rigid plastic panes, flexible plastic panes and rigid plastic multiple-glazed units. The proposed modifications to this type of glazing are in line with the requirements of Supplement 4 to the 01 series of amendment of UN Regulation No. 43.

The US safety agency raises questions concerning the specific nature of the observed failures and the scope of the test procedures to ensure that glazing with ceramic printed areas resist such failures. NHTSA notes anomalies in the data that might suggest failure modes specific to particular manufacturers and/or production batches while questioning the focus on panoramic sunroofs rather than all glazing where ceramic printing might be a potential cause of failure.
