Amendments proposed by the LNG Task Force on incorporating LNG systems into Regulation 110 were approved by the 104th session of the GRSG (GRSG/2013/7). The German delegate, recognizing that potential methane release — venting from ‘boil off’ — is an environmental issue suggested that the issue of holding time for LNG and its venting be brought forward to the GRPE.

Proposal to introduce type-approval provisions for fuel selection systems and for “valve control at stop-start”. The former focuses on ensuring that dual fuel systems prevent fuel intended for one system from flowing into the other system. The latter would let the tank valves stay open in a commanded stop-start phase as is the case for the idling phase of vehicles not equipped with start-stop systems.

Since the 1960’s diesel has been the predominant fuel used for the propulsion of heavy goods vehicles. Fuel-related requirements for dangerous goods (ADR) vehicles have been based upon this prevalence; however, duel fuel vehicles using CNG and LNG have raised issues concerning the use of such fuel systems on ADR vehicles. This paper discusses ADR vehicles and such gaseous fuels.
