Implementation of Revision 8 to Consolidated Resolution No. 3 (R.E.3)

Proposal for a new UN Regulation on the type approval of vehicles and systems with regard to fire suppression systems designed to reduce the risk of Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosions (BLEVE) to support the fitment of such systems to vehicles transporting dangerous goods (ADR vehicles). Japan abstained from the vote to adopt.

Proposal for a new regulation for the type approval of systems designed to detect signs of fatigue and warn the driver when drowsiness is detected (based on the European Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/1341).

Proposal for a new type-approval regulation concerning vehicles equipped with systems designed to detect prolonged distraction of the driver’s visual focus away from the driving task and issue warnings if such distraction events are detected (based on European Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2590).

Proposal to align the real-driving emissions provisions with the requirements of Euro 7 and to introduce a “levels” concept.

Proposal to clarify the gear selection procedure pursuant to the amendment to allow deviation from the reference acceleration a_wot,ref requirement for Conformity of Production tests.

Proposal to align the scope with the Euro 7 emissions legislation, including the clarification of the definitions on vehicle types and families.

Proposal to introduce introduce new light emitting diode (LED) light source categories LRR8A and LRR8B, to amend provisions in paragraph 3.1, group 1, group 2, and group 3 concerning phase out of certain light source categories and to introduce new LED replacement light source categories H8, H16 and HB4.

Proposal to align the real-driving emissions provisions with the requirements of Euro 7 and to introduce a “levels” concept.

Proposal for a new series to align with Euro 7 requirements, including provisions on manipulation devices and manipulation strategies, anti-tampering, security and cyber security, and extended lifetime and In-Service Conformity requirements for in-vehicle battery durability. The Type 2 test has been removed from this new series.
