Advanced Driver Distraction Warning (ADDW) systems: Proposal for a new UN Regulation

Proposal for a new type-approval regulation concerning vehicles equipped with systems designed to detect prolonged distraction of the driver’s visual focus away from the driving task and issue warnings if such distraction events are detected (based on European Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/2590).

72. The secretary of GRSG presented draft new UN Regulation No. [181] on Engine Fire Suppression Systems (WP.29/2026/38) to improve safety of vehicles carrying dangerous goods equipped with internal combustion engines, draft new UN Regulation No. [182] on Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning system (WP.29/2026/39) to reduced fatigue related crashes and new UN Regulation No. [183] on Advanced Driver Distraction Warning system (WP.29/2026/40) to reduce accidents related to driver distraction.

73. The World Forum considered the above draft UN Regulations under agenda items 4.13.3. to 4.13.5. and recommended their submission to AC.1 for voting.
