For M2 and M3 vehicle of all classes, when an adult seating in a forward-facing seat which face a built in Child Restraint system, an impact between the adult and the child shall be prevented. In order to prevent the impact between the occupants a 3-point belt is requested on the adult seating position. The text has been proposed to be updated in the UN Regulation 16 Supplement 05 to 08 series of amendments, it seeks to harmonize requirements in both UN Regulation 14 and UN Regulation 16. |

The proposed amendment does not intend to change the requirements nor the level of stringency. The footnote to paragraph 3.2.2. is added to further clarify the definition of the use of a one belt route. In its current state, the text apparently has been interpreted as to allow the use of a single belt route for each application that an Enhanced Child Restraint System (ECRS) would offer. That way, one belt route for a rearward facing ECRS (integral) and a second belt route for a forward facing (non- integral) ECRS has been introduced, making a combination of C and E. |

Proposal to reflect the size ranges used in UN R129, OICA suggests using the stature of 100 cm (which is approximately a child weighing 18 kg). This would be aligned with the requirement that non-integral ECRS are not allowed for children with a stature of less than 100 cm (6.1.3.3.) and also with the requirement for toxicity testing in 6.3.1.1 (para 6.3.1.1 does not apply to non-integral ECRS with a stature range of 100 cm or above). |
