VDMA presentation submitted by CEMA to open a discussion on amending the UN Regulation on tractor lighting to reduce accidents involving agricultural machinery. This proposal is supported by document GRE-69-02: German Insurance Association study of tractor-related accidents.

Although, in Germany, motorized agricultural vehicles (MAV) are few, an above-average number of people are seriously injured or killed in accidents involving these vehicles, and MAV are more often the main cause of the accident. This paper analyzes the issues involved such accidents.

1. take into account vehicles of categories R or T with a width greater than 2,55 m and category S vehicles with a width greater than 3 m;
2. use reflective materials as an alternative to retro-reflectors and side-marker
   lamps;
3. use amber special warning devices to inform of slow vehicles on the road;
4. introduce the use of manufacturer logos.
