Presentation of traffic accident data for car-to-pedestrian collisions occurring at night in Japan. Approximately 65 to 70 per cent of traffic accidents for car to pedestrian in Japan occur at night-time. The data cover the 10-year period from 2015 to 2024 and analyse obstruction, pedestrian direction of crossing, collision point, walking speed, and age. Seventy per cent of pedestrians cross from the right at night. Accidents involving children aged 12 and under are extremely rare. Vehicle speeds range from 30 km/h to 60 km/h without obstruction and 40 km/h to 50 km/h with obstruction. The proportion of passenger cars equipped with AEBS night-time is approximately half.
Japan presents the current status of Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) testing for passenger vehicles in night-time conditions under the Japan New Car Assessment Program (JNCAP). The document describes test procedures for car-to-pedestrian scenarios, including car-to-pedestrian farside (CPF) and car-to-pedestrian farside obstructed (CPFO) scenarios, conducted with and without street lighting. Test speeds range from 30 to 60 km/h. Test conditions specify tolerances for vehicle velocity, pedestrian target velocity, lateral position, collision point, yaw rate, steering angular velocity, and braking temperature.

Minutes of the 48th SG-EDR conference call meeting held 15-16 September 2026. The group conducted final review of official documents for UN R160 and UN R169, reaching agreement on multiple technical specifications: DDAW recording duration of 60 minutes (bracketed for GRSG consideration), DCAS duration of 1000 seconds and 10 warnings, LDWS and data element frequencies of 4 Hz and 10 Hz respectively, yaw rate frequency increased to 10 Hz, and airbag warning lamp adjustments. Transitional provisions set for 2030 and 2035. EDR Step 3 workstream planning identified topics including triggering sensitivity, data elements, L-category vehicles, and data survivability. Governance discussion noted DSSAD separation under IWG ADS2, with EDR work continuing under potential new taskforce structure.
Proposal to restructure para. 4.4. by dividing it into paras. 4.4.1. through 4.4.8., add a new para. 4.4.7. permitting acceptance of measurements of RD-ASEP leading to operation conditions outside the control range when agreed by the manufacturer and authority, modify the heading of para. 3.6.1. to reference a selected reference v-t-e ratio, update references to v-t-e ratio terminology throughout para. 3.6.1.1., add a provision that negative acceleration values be set to zero in para. 4.5.4.1., restructure para. 2.2.1.2. by renumbering into paras. 2.2.1.2.1. and 2.2.1.2.2., and modify the reference vehicle speed parameter designation from vTEST to vPP,CRS.
