A 2025 study by TU Darmstadt concluded that a daylight running light passing-beam switching threshold of 500lx is preferable at sunset, and that adaptive DRL values lower than 400cd seem sufficient. The GTB is developing amendment proposals for DRL/low beam switching thresholds, adaptive DRL, and Class V ECO mode. Annual energy saving potentials range from 55 GWh to 141 GWh across evaluated use cases, with highest savings from DRL intensity adaptation and reduced low beam in city nighttime driving. |

| Lighting and Light-signalling: Report of the 94th (April 2026) session |

GRE held its ninety-fourth session from 27 to 30 April 2026 in Geneva. The Working Party adopted proposals for amendments to UN Regulations on lighting and light-signalling devices, including proposals to UN Regulation No. 148 and No. 149 as draft Supplement 8 to the 01 series, and to UN Regulation No. 10 as draft Supplement 3 to the 07 series, mandating the secretariat to submit these to the June 2026 and November 2026 sessions of WP.29 and AC.1 as appropriate. GRE agreed to continue consideration of several proposals at its next session, including those on call for help signals, manufacturer logos in lighting devices, pair of lamps clarification, retro-reflective device colour requirements, selective yellow for front lamps, supplemental light-signalling devices, and direction indicator projections, noting concerns from vulnerable road users representatives. GRE extended the mandate of the Informal Working Group on Electromagnetic Compatibility until December 2028 and decided to continue technical discussions on automated driving system marker lamps. The next session is scheduled for 20 to 23 October 2026, with a working document submission deadline of 27 July 2026. |
