GRE-94-39
UN R86: Highlights of the baseline amendments to 04 series of amendments

UN R86 baseline amendments add agricultural non-road mobile machinery to scope. Definitions are simplified by removing common vehicle definitions and aligning structure with UN R48. Headlamps symmetrical classes are reviewed following CLEPA comment. Side retro-reflector requirements align with EU requirements on location. Direction-indicator lamps alignment with EU scope for tractors remains an open point.

GRE | Session 94 | 27-30 Apr

7. The experts of the Informal Working Group “Simplification of the Lighting and Light-Signalling Regulations” (IWG SLR) reported on their activities (GRE-94-32) and presented an extensive “SLR package” made up of the consolidated texts of draft new series of amendments to four installation UN Regulations Nos. 48, 53, 74 and 86 (GRE-94-33, GRE-94-35, GRE-94-36, GRE-94-37, GRE-94-38, GRE-94-39, GRE-94-40, GRE-94-41). IWG SLR continued considerations on the apparent surface and improved visibility of the rear direction indicators against the stop lamps. The expert from the Netherlands (Kingdom of) reminded that the new series of amendments should include the updated provisions on the Unique Identifier (UI).

8. The Chair of IWG SLR pointed out that the new series of amendments to the installation UN Regulations would include transitional provisions for those series only, while the transitional provisions for the previous series would be collected and published in a separate reference document under the folder “Documents for reference only” on the GRE website.

9. GRE agreed to address ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/2026/3 and GRE-94-02-Rev.1 under agenda item 7 (c) (see para. 32 below).
