Proposal for a new UN Regulation on the approval of devices for reversing motion and motor vehicles with regard to the driver’s awareness of vulnerable road users behind vehicles. The purpose of this Regulation is to provide the provisions for reversing motion concerning on awareness of vulnerable road users proximity. UN Regulation No. 46 provides provisions for indirect vision of motor vehicles. This Regulation expands driver’s vision or awareness for vehicle rear direction when in reversing motion. Therefore, some requirements of this Regulation may be satisfied by devices complying with UN Regulation No. 46.

The purpose is to address VRU safety risks on narrow roads and other conditions where cyclists and pedestrians must share the lane with vehicles. Germany is requesting GRSG guidance regarding the approval of CMS that adapt the field of view under certain conditions (e.g., to compensate when a vehicle and trailer combination moves along a curve).
