25 Aug Lighting and Light-signalling: Report of the 94th (April 2026) session GRE/94 2026-08-25 GRE held its ninety-fourth session from 27 to 30 April 2026 in Geneva. The Working Party adopted proposals for amendments to UN Regulations on lighting and light-signalling devices, including proposals to UN Regulation No. 148 and No. 149 as draft Supplement 8 to the 01 series, and to UN Regulation No. 10 as draft Supplement 3 to the 07 series, mandating the secretariat to submit these to the June 2026 and November 2026 sessions of WP.29 and AC.1 as appropriate. GRE agreed to continue consideration of several proposals at its next session, including those on call for help signals, manufacturer logos in lighting devices, pair of lamps clarification, retro-reflective device colour requirements, selective yellow for front lamps, supplemental light-signalling devices, and direction indicator projections, noting concerns from vulnerable road users representatives. GRE extended the mandate of the Informal Working Group on Electromagnetic Compatibility until December 2028 and decided to continue technical discussions on automated driving system marker lamps. The next session is scheduled for 20 to 23 October 2026, with a working document submission deadline of 27 July 2026.

10 Apr Introduction of supplemental light-signalling devices (GTB) GRE-94-13 2026-04-10 The document introduces a supplemental light-signaling devices concept for multiple lamp systems. A master lamp meeting all requirements may be accompanied by one or more supplemental devices without photometric requirements for the supplemental devices. An IM reference number limits the sum of all devices mounted on a vehicle to below 100. Supplemental devices require separate marking. Color, switching, failure, and installation requirements apply to all devices of a function together. The approach permits combining devices from different manufacturers with individual type approvals. GTB

25 Apr GRSP Informal Working Group on Children Left In Vehicles () GRE-94-15/Rev.1 2026-04-25 This paper is to inform relevant GRs of the ongoing activities within the CLIV informal group and the potential influence on the work under the responsibilities of the GRs. CLIV is in Phase 2 developing a new UN Regulation on Children Left in Vehicles for vehicle categories M<sub>1</sub>, M<sub>2</sub>, M<sub>3</sub> and N<sub>1</sub>. The draft regulation includes requirements for visual and audible external warnings upon detecting a CLIV event. The IWG prioritises development for buses first, then light vehicles. The draft regulation aims to mitigate risk of serious or fatal injuries to children left in vehicles. Upon detecting a CLIV event, visual and audible external warnings will be generated using an SOS morse code pattern to distinguish from existing warnings.
21 Apr Marker lamps for cars in automated and autonomous driving mode (FIA Foundation) GRE-94-16 2026-04-21 FIA proposes that vehicles in automated mode in mixed traffic should be marked with one light visible from all sides. Marker lights should have uniform colour and shape clearly distinguished from other signal lights, be positioned at sufficient distance from signal lights and headlamps to avoid impairing visibility, and be designed to not glare other road users. 21 Apr UN R48: Comments on Direction Indicator Projection” (DIP) technology (IFP) GRE-94-17 2026-04-21 The European Cyclists Federation and International Federation of Pedestrians withhold support for Direction Indicator Projection (DIP) technology regulation. They contend available studies lack evidence of reduced conflicts or crashes in real-world conditions, raise concerns about behavioral adaptations that may redistribute rather than reduce risk, and note the technology does not address responsibility allocation where cyclists and pedestrians already have legal priority. Additional concerns include reliance on uncontrolled road surfaces affecting signal visibility and clarity, and risks of shifting safety burden onto vulnerable road users contrary to Safe System principles. They urge contracting parties to refrain from regulation pending robust research confirming the technology neither undermines priority rules nor introduces unintended behavioral risks. IFP
21 Apr TF LED Substitutes / Retrofits: Status report (UK) GRE-94-18 2026-04-21 The Task Force on Substitutes/Retrofits reports progress on LED substitutes and retrofits. Actions completed include Step 1 on LED Substitutes and Step 2 on LED Replacements covering administrative and technical items. The Front Fog cluster H8, H16, HB4 was approved by WP29 in March 2026 and entered into force. Current focus is the High Beam cluster HB3, HIR2, H9 and H10, with technical discussions ongoing in GTB WGLS and H10 LEDr draft category sheet submitted. Market surveillance requires improvement across control points from manufacturer to road-side enforcement. UK
21 Apr TF SR: H10 LEDr draft category sheet (UK) GRE-94-19 2026-04-21 Category H10 sheet defines LED light source H10_LEDr dimensions, electrical and photometric characteristics, and measurement requirements. The LED light source shall not exceed the envelope indicated in Figure 2 and shall function in either voltage polarity. Essential characteristics include rated 12 volts, 21 watts, luminous flux 850 lm ± 15%, cap temperature maximum 100°C, and electrical current 1500 mA minimum at 12–14 V DC. The document specifies screen projection requirements using box systems, contrast requirements, and normalized luminous intensity distribution measurements in C-planes per CIE Publication 70-1987. UK
22 Apr Glare issues: Identifying the issues with headlamp aiming (CITA) GRE-94-20 2026-04-22 Identifies challenges with headlamp aiming across approval and inspection processes. Issues include determining vehicle actual load and cut-off line definition for up-down aiming, defining vehicle references and kink point location for left-right aiming, and separating aiming control from beam pattern assessment. Inspection data show rejection rates of 4.8 per cent for light duty vehicles and 2.8 per cent for heavy duty vehicles in France, with front fog lamp misalignment at 46 per cent. 22 Apr TF Glare Prevention: Status report GRE-94-21 2026-04-22 The Task Force on Glare Prevention, Homework teams examined literature (TFGP-06-02), Periodical Technical Inspections (TFGP-07-02), ADB/AFS Regulation 48 (TFGP-07-03), and contributions from GTB (TFGP-07-04, TFGP-07-05) and CITA (TFGP-05-02, TFGP-07-07). The Task Force is preparing draft recommendations on the first step regarding retroreflective identification devices and draft countermeasures, with further recommendations on second-step glare from light signalling devices and DRL planned for October 2026.

22 Apr TF AVSR: Status Report GRE-94-23 2026-04-22 This status report from GRE TF AVSR discusses development of a Hybrid Regulation on ADS Marker Lamps for power-driven vehicles. The TF addresses colour specifications aligned with SAE J3134 and ECE R65 standards. Key open questions for GRE guidance include: whether pulsating luminous intensity patterns should be permitted; potential conflict with the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic; application to platooning trucks and agricultural vehicles; inclusion of L<sub>6</sub> and L<sub>7</sub> categories; mandatory versus optional rear installation; variable luminous intensity based on environmental conditions; side marker lamp integration possibilities; and reciprocal incorporation with other lamps.
