Proposal to exempt any heaters (and not only combustion heaters as in the current text) located outside the passenger compartment and using water as a transfer medium are deemed to comply with the annexes on air quality and temperature.

In the English version of UN Regulation No. 34, the provisions for lateral collision are referenced in para. 1.2. of the scope and in para. 9 of Part II on vehicle tests, but (unlike in the French translation) they are not mentioned in para. 5.10. on the test requirements for liquid fuel tanks. This proposal aims to align the English version to French text of the Regulation with regard to the test provisions for side impacts.

Proposal to align the communication form with with the scope of the Regulation regarding vehicle categories (adding category L).

Proposal to clarify the text. Supplement 1 to the 02 series of amendments amended the definition of the interior compartment (formerly “passenger compartment” up to the 01 series of amendments). Part of this amendment concerned the upper boundary surface, replacing the term “roof” by “ceiling”. This proposal updates several passages of the text where the term “roof” should therefore be replaced.

Proposal to align UN R121 with the 07 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 16:

1. the term “seat belt” is replaced by “safety belt”,
2. the symbol for safety belt, defined in item 21 of Table 1 in the Regulation, may be displayed in different colours to convey different meanings. Therefore, the existing footnote 18 has been added to item 21, and
3. this symbol may be replaced by different symbols for seats other than those of the front row. Therefore, a new footnote 22 is added to item 21.

Proposal to clarify that in the case where telltale No. 1 (Master lighting switch) and telltale No. 19 (Position, side marker, and/or end-outline marker lamps) are combined, the symbol may be shown in other colours than specified in the table of telltales in order to convey different meanings according to the general colour coding as proposed in paragraph 5. of ISO 2575-2004 (i.e., per footnote 18 to the table).

Proposal to correct the translation into Russian of Table 1 in document GRSG/2017/5.

Proposal to replace the prohibition against the use of reinforced insulation for trolleybus circuits directly connected to the overhead power line with a requirement that such circuits shall be double insulated.

Question on whether it is possible to approve a vehicle declared for no standing passengers as a Class II bus (as opposed to requiring approval as Class III which is specifically defined as a bus designed to carry only seated passengers).

Proposal to require in the case where ogive protective covers are fitted to a cylinder that the covers be removed before conducting the impact damage (drop) test.

Proposal to establish a requirement for easy access to the CNG container installation in order to permit visual (periodical) inspection as a means to reduce the safety risks, such as refueling explosion, due to corrosion.
