Presentation of data to supplement discussions on improvements to the driver field of view, especially with respect to indirect vision (rear, blind spot, mirrors, camera systems).

Proposal to introduce requirements for “obstacle detection systems to support fields of vision” (e.g., wide-view mirrors, sensors, camera systems). The aim is to decrease backover fatalities and injuries due to driver failure to adequately scan for obstacles when driving in reverse gear.

Proposal for an informal group to develop a draft regulatory proposal for a new UN Regulation on close proximity vision and obstacle detection systems in order to establish uniform technical requirements for such close proximity vision and obstacle detection systems to prevent accidents by enabling the driver to notice any pedestrians around or behind the vehicle.
