Proposal to enable the optional use of hazard warning lamps on L1 category vehicles to alert other vehicles in case of breakdown or other situations that could lead to danger on the road.

This proposal brings L1 category warning signal options in line with those for other 2-wheeled vehicles.

IMMA correction (of an oversight on
inclusion of the colors of the lights from R53 to ensure complete alignment of UN R74 with R53) to its proposal to enable the optional use of hazard warning lamps on L1 category vehicles to alert other vehicles in case of breakdown or other situations that could lead to danger on the road.

IMMA proposal to delete definitions in UN R74.01 that are already in UN R48. Under the Simplification of Lighting Regulations (SLR) program, certain common lighting device definitions would be consolidated under UN R48 (lighting installation).

Proposal includes transitional provisions and justification.

Baseline document for amending UN R74 (based on WP.29/2024/91, SLR-71-07, SLR-71-7, SLR-66-01, and SLR-73-07). Key changes include: simplifying definitions; using “type-approved” and “type-approval” with hyphens per UN R48; replacing “vehicle type (moped)” with “type of vehicles of category L₁”; adding hyphenation to “direction-indicator lamp”; deleting “above” from paragraph references; clarifying UN R48 series; removing “to this Regulation” after Annex references; applying scientific notation for lumens; including electric vehicles; revising individual and general provisions; correcting signal lamp category errors; and using category symbols instead of lamp function names.
