When the scope of Euro VI legislation in the EU was extended downwards to 2,380 kg, the vehicles which are so approved were not exempted from light duty approvals. As the measurement of CO2 emissions and fuel/energy consumption is covered by UN Regulation No. 101, this proposal would add an exemption clause in UN Regulation No. 83 to take into account this overlap with light-duty vehicle requirements.

Proposal to adapt the 06 and 07 series of amendments to Regulation No. 83 to Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) warning and inducement systems to current vehicles, emissions requirements and reagent infrastructure. In light of further vehicle weight reduction for CO2 optimization and the resultant vehicle packaging challenges, diesel cars will likely have smaller AdBlue® reagent tanks. For passenger cars, the warning indicator to refill AdBlue® has to be activated at 2,400 km of remaining reagent range which could result in very frequent refills of smaller reagent tanks. This proposal would allow for reagent refill inducement warnings as a percentage of tank capacity. For heavy-duty vehicles, the warning has to be activated at least at a reagent level of 10 per cent of total reagent tank volume. The inducement system has to be activated at least at 2.5 per cent of reagent level. OICA |

2018-04-19 |
Proposal to clarify the fuel tank capacity restriction for mono-fuel gas vehicles. The definition of “mono-fuel gas vehicle” was slightly amended between the 06 and the 07 series of amendments to UN R83. This proposal aims to align the definitions across both series in order to avoid divergent interpretations.
Although the reference to a 15 liters tank has always been understood to refer to the nominal capacity of the tank, the use of the term “nominal capacity” in UN GTR No. 19 in several places other than the definition of “mono-fuel gas vehicle” can lead to other interpretations of the definition. The word “nominal” should therefore be inserted into the definition in both series of amendments. OICA |
