Proposal to extend the modifications that introduced provisions for interdependent direction indicator lamps in the 06 series of amendments to UN R48 to the 04 and 05 series in order to avoid an unjustified design restriction for approvals under the earlier versions of the regulation.

Revised proposal to amend UN R129, updating the formal proposal GRSP/2014/7 submitted for the May 2014 GRSP session, pursuant to discussions of the CRS informal working group during its 43rd session. The 01 series of amendments would introduce provisions to enable the approval of non-integral child restraint systems (“Universal Booster” or “Specific to vehicle Booster”) under “phase 2” of the regulation’s development.

In parallel with the introduction of a new Regulation on a frontal impact with focus on the restraint system, this proposal would limit the chest deflection of the Hybrid III dummy to 42 mm (from the current 50 mm) in order to promote improved protection of older occupants.

European countries are considering new requirements to require the fitment of snow tyres for use in severe snow conditions on specific axles of heavy duty vehicles. New tyres are approved under UN R117; however, a large percentage of heavy duty vehicles are fitted with retreaded tyres which are outside the scope of UN R117. This proposal would transpose the relevant requirements for new snow tyres into UN R109 in order of avoid the exclusion of retreaded tyres from such applications/markets.
