Proposal to clarify that transparency requirements under UN R43 apply in both directions (exterior to interior and interior to exterior), addressing the growing use of privacy foils on windscreens and front side windows post-registration, which raises safety concerns regarding driver eye-contact, law enforcement visibility, and driving behaviour enforcement, consistent with the position expressed by GRSG at its 130th session.

Proposal to align UN R43 with a proposed amendment to UN R125 (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSG/2026/23), which resolves a longstanding inconsistency between the lower datum point definition (§5.1.1.3) and the obstruction requirement (§5.1.3) by harmonizing the lower datum point angle from 5° to 4°.

Event data recorders shall record critical crash-related parameters shortly before, during and immediately after a collision, including vehicle speed, braking, position, tilt, and state of safety systems. Data shall be anonymised, protected against manipulation, operate on a closed-loop system, and be made available to national authorities only for accident research and analysis. Automated vehicles and fully automated vehicles shall comply with technical specifications for event data recorders. Discussion topics include whether recording requirements should be adapted for ADS-driven vehicles, whether ADS-specific data elements such as timestamp data should be recorded, and related issues.
