The agenda includes status updates on the Convoy Method Dual-Normalisation Framework, tyre abrasion timeline, and test method development for mileage potential metric, tread depth measurement, and C3 tyre abrasion. Action items include ETRTO uploading acceleration calculation examples to the TFTA wiki, TFTA reviewing the Gantt chart, and the SWG on data assessment redefining its scope by the 49th session.

The SWG on data assessment defines its scope as organisational matters for the Confirmation plan 2026, data anonymisation, governance and data storage to be defined. Its mandate includes preparation of tyre selection for the Confirmation plan, informing and collecting information from candidate test facilities, organizing tyre availability and shipments, and preparing data for TAPP data assessment including data collection and compilation.

Corrections to documents submitted by TF-AVRS and approved by GRBP amend terminology in UN R51.03 to harmonize bidirectional spelling, correct vehicle category references in UN R51.03 and UN R165 to reference category X only rather than non-existent category M1Y or category M, clarify in UN R64 that logical signals shall be transmitted to the ADS when an ADS feature is active, introduce references to specific ADS provisions in Annexes 5 and 7 of UN R138.02 and UN R165, add grammatical corrections to UN R141, and align UN R165 terminology with ADS regulation language.

Task Force Data Analysis (Sub Group to IWG RD-ASEP) held its 13th meeting on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026. The group reviewed database analysis including statistical analysis of differences between expected and measured sound levels, sub-model construction, and optimization calculations for parameter tables. Discussion addressed model construction concerns, vehicle failure differentiation, and data collection requirements including approval values according to UN R117. Next meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, 7th July and Monday, 24th August 2026.

A Universal International Whole Vehicle Type Approval issued for vehicles of category M₁ under UN R0 that includes type-approval under the UN Regulations concerned shall be considered equivalent to an EU type-approval granted under Framework Regulation (EU) 2018/858. The approval authority granting EU-WVTA must confirm for all variants and versions within the EU-WVTA vehicle type the equivalence of the Part III list and that the EU-WVTA type is covered by the IWVTA class and IWVTA type.

The agenda includes discussion of the workplan 2025–2026 for C1 tyres and test campaign status, preparation of the IWG WGWT status report to GRBP 84th session (September 2026), and identification of next meetings scheduled for 2 July and 15 July 2026.

WTPP has started post-processing activity for the 3PMSF cluster. 90% of test results for normal tyres are expected to be reached by June 2026. WTPP members are working on dataset correction including typos and rounding, and definition of the outliers.

IWVTA, established in 2017 under UN R0 and the 1958 Agreement, extends mutual recognition from individual vehicle systems to whole vehicles, reducing duplication while preserving safety and environmental standards. Key benefits include simplified approval procedures, reduced testing and administrative costs, and improved time-to-market through a single coherent whole-vehicle approval framework based on UN Regulations. IWVTA acts as a convergence tool between different regulatory systems and offers a flexible framework for emerging markets. Main obstacles include that IWVTA is not yet global, with limited coverage, uneven acceptance, and complexity of introduction.

Proposal to insert paragraphs establishing references to Software Identification Number definitions in Consolidated Resolution R.E.3 Annex 7 para. 2, insert paragraphs requiring manufacturers to provide Technical Services with information on hardware and software influencing performance, insert paragraphs allowing vehicle manufacturers to apply for new approvals to differentiate software versions for registered vehicles from those for new vehicles with duplication of tests avoided where possible, amend production discontinuation provisions to clarify that production is not considered definitively discontinued if manufacturers intend to obtain subsequent extensions for software updates of registered vehicles, and amend approval communications to include additional information regarding software identification and software updates in UN Regulations 51, 64, 138, 141, 142 and 165, as presented in document GRBP-83-36 and implementing Revision 8 to Consolidated Resolution No. 3 (WP.29/2025/147).

Proposal to amend para. 2.18. to update the year reference in standard F2493 from 24 to 26, amend paras. 6.6. and 6.7. to change “classified” to “categorized”, revise tread depth and void to fill ratio requirements for class C1 special use tyres, restructure requirements for professional off-road tyres with subsections for each class, amend Annex 3 para. 4.2.2. to correct the measurement unit of coefficient K1 to dB(A), amend Annex 3 Appendix 1 Part 2 item 3.1. to update the ISO 10844 year reference from 2014 to 2021, and amend Annex 7 Appendix 3 Item 5 to enable SRTT weighted average to be reported for each candidate in the test results table.

The 50th IWVTA IWG session discussed strategies to increase IWVTA awareness and use, including harmonizing U-IWVTA with Japan’s Type Designation System and holding a workshop on July 17. Members reviewed UN R0/09 series amendments, considered revisions to General Guidelines on Transitional Provisions to prevent contradictions between series, and proposed a mechanism to identify compliance levels of UN type-approvals in DETA. The group will submit amended proposals to WP.29 in June and review updated Terms of Reference.

The agenda includes consideration of UN R0/09 series of amendments with Annex 4 update, proposed amendments to Guidelines on Transitional Provisions, discussion of IWVTA awareness and promotion including results from the first DETA/IWVTA workshop, extension of mandates beyond November 2026 with proposed terms of reference, and adding an attribute in DETA to indicate the latest series of amendments of approvals. A future meeting is proposed for November 12, 2026, in Paris.

Proposal to amend the General Guidelines for United Nations regulatory procedures and transitional provisions in UN Regulations based on WP.29/2024/76, to move transitional provisions applicable to all series of amendments to the beginning of transitional provisions sections, retitle successive series provisions as “Transitional provisions for the XX Series” and “Transitional provisions for the XX+1 Series”, add footnote reference 6 to para. V.3, and correct terminology from “previous” to “preceding” in footnotes 4–6 for consistency.

The Informal Working Group on International Whole Vehicle Type Approval assists WP.29 in harmonizing vehicle regulations under the 1958 Agreement. It clarifies issues related to UN Regulation No.0 and General Guidelines on Transitional provisions, upgrades UN Regulations applicable to IWVTA annually, and submits amendment proposals to WP.29 each November. Short to mid-term objectives include proposing user-friendly U-IWVTA and packaged L-IWVTA by end of 2029. Long-term objectives involve submitting proposals for full IWVTA covering all necessary UN Regulations. The group operates under WP.29 supervision, is open to 1958 Agreement Contracting Parties and NGOs, and makes decisions by consensus.

Questionnaire on DETA/IWVTA Workshop. Part 1: DETA session requests respondent’s name and organization, then asks about level of understanding of DETA session as high, moderate, or low; items needing more explanation; and suggestions to make DETA more attractive for 1958 Contracting Parties, 1998 Contracting Parties, 1997 Contracting Parties, approval holders, and other users. Part 2: IWVTA session asks about level of understanding of IWVTA session as high, moderate, or low; items needing more explanation; and for Authorities, how Regulation No. 0 could be improved to make IWVTA acceptable for use as part of vehicle type-approval process. The future workshop section asks about expectations for next workshop and suggestions on contents, timing, and length.

UN R117 establishes test procedures ensuring reliability, repeatability and reproducibility of results through standard reference test tyres manufactured by Manufacture Francaise des Pneumatiques Michelin in accordance with ASTM International standards. In 2024, the Russian Federation’s technical service was officially refused supply of these tyres due to export sanctions. The Russian Federation contends this refusal constitutes discrimination against a Contracting Party to the 1958 Geneva Agreement and calls on WP.29 to assess this discrimination and explain to the manufacturer its role in implementing the Agreement within the UN system.

The IWVTA IWG submitted an Informal Document regarding amendments to the General Guidelines on Transitional Provisions to introduce a new paragraph P in Annex 1 for the current V9&V9bis, Section II, and to add a headline to paragraph V and paragraph V.+1 in the same section. The IWVTA IWG submitted an Informal proposal regarding amendments to UN R0/09 series as an annual update on UN Regulations applicable to IWVTA. A joint workshop with the DETA IWG was held on 17 June 2026 in Flensburg, Germany with approximately 80 participants from authorities, technical services, and industry. Key outcomes include considering organizing a second workshop in Asia, conducting a survey on desirable DETA and IWVTA systems, and developing supporting materials explaining manufacturer application procedures.

Proposal to amend General Guidelines for United Nations regulatory procedures and transitional provisions in UN Regulations based on WP.29/2024/76, adding permanent transitional provisions applicable to all series of amendments allowing Contracting Parties to grant type approvals according to any preceding series of amendments and continue granting extensions of existing approvals, reorganizing series-specific transitional provisions with provisions for the XX Series and subsequent series, and deleting former para. V.9 and V.9bis provisions that shall be repositioned as permanent provisions.

The session will address the status of the 2026 workplan, organizational matters, workplan updates, best practice meetings with test facilities, ITTAC proposal on tyre abrasion Convoy Method Dual-Normalisation Framework, UTAC tyre abrasion timeline, TFTA activities financing, development of the mileage potential metric, test method development status for C1, C2, and C3 tyres, preparation of supplement 1 to UN Regulation No. 186, and improvements to test methods.

Draft minutes of the 49th session of the Task Force on Tyre Abrasion (TFTA), held June 3rd, 2026 (9:00–12:00 CET). Previous meeting minutes were approved. Action item TA-48-1: ETRTO to check feasibility to upload acceleration calculation examples on TFTA wiki. ETRTO confirmed feasibility assessment completed; example files could be moved to TFTA wiki with a disclaimer that TFTA is not responsible for example content. Action item TA-49-1: ETRTO will prepare disclaimer to be reviewed and validated by TFTA during 50th session. Agenda adopted. ETRTO presented comments on updated Gantt prepared by UTAC per document TA-49-03. TFTA agreed to evaluate data analysis per tyre segment when data available. JASIC requested more time to review and provide feedback next session. ETRTO and JATMA tyre manufacturers ready to make selected tyres available; first orders and deliveries started last week of May. Training session on best practices organized 2nd half of June. Action item TA-48-2: SWG on data assessment to redefine scope and mandate. SWG leader presented amendment proposal per document TA-49-02. TFTA agreed with SWG scope and mandate per TA-49-02/Rev.1. ETRTO stated mileage potential work should address all TFTA members and tyre manufacturers associations at UN level. JRC studying tread depth divided by abrasion index approach. Topic readdressed next TFTA. ETRTO noted test campaign running; final results expected Q4 2026 including 2nd set Normal and 3PMSF temperature behavior tests and pressure impact test. Action item TA-49-2: EC and JRC will reflect by next TFTA session how annex 4 would be impacted considering C2 tyres. TFTA co-chair suggested extraordinary brainstorming session end September/beginning October 2026 for C3 tyre abrasion test method development. Next meetings: 50th session July 6 (9:00–12:00 CET); 51st session August 25 (9:00–12:00 CET).
