Discussion paper for the subgroups working on revisions to the 1959 Agreement (SG58) and on the text of the IWVTA regulation (SGR0) towards finalizing provisions on type-approval numbering and markings.

This proposal concerns documents SGR0-02-04-Rev.4 and IWVTA-SGR0-08-08, paragraph 13.4. Both documents contain provisions whereby Contracting Parties accepting approvals to earlier versions of individual regulations or accepting the absence of such approvals shall notify the UN secretariat. This proposal clarifies that this obligation applies both to parties using the Limited IWVTA (i.e., approvals to lower stringency levels) and the Universal IWVTA (i.e., approvals to the latest versions of each regulation).

Proposal for wording to ensure that countries notify the UN secretariat of decisions to accept approvals based upon earlier versions of UN Regulations under the proposed International Whole Vehicle Type Approval system.
