Proposal from Japan for the use of an isolation resistance monitor as an alternative to water flooding and washing tests in evaluating electric vehicle protection against water.

Proposal to include in the testing of REESS physical integrity such vehicle structural elements as may have an impact on test results. In other words, the manufacturer may request protective body elements to be included in the test set up.

The isolation monitoring system monitors the isolation resistance of the vehicle system periodically or continuously and warns if isolation loss is detected. Japan proposes this requirement in order to signal problems with isolation so the vehicle can be brought in for service before the failure reaches higher severity where the occupant could receive an electrical shock.
