GRSP Informal Working Group on Children Left In Vehicles

This paper is to inform relevant GRs of the ongoing activities within the CLIV informal group and the potential influence on the work under the responsibilities of the GRs. CLIV is in Phase 2 developing a new UN Regulation on Children Left in Vehicles for vehicle categories M1, M2, M3 and N1. The draft regulation includes requirements for visual and audible external warnings upon detecting a CLIV event. The IWG prioritises development for buses first, then light vehicles. The draft regulation aims to mitigate risk of serious or fatal injuries to children left in vehicles. Upon detecting a CLIV event, visual and audible external warnings will be generated using an SOS morse code pattern to distinguish from existing warnings.

Energy Saving Opportunities in Automotive Lighting: GTB Activities Status Report

A 2025 study by TU Darmstadt concluded that a daylight running light passing-beam switching threshold of 500lx is preferable at sunset, and that adaptive DRL values lower than 400cd seem sufficient. The GTB is developing amendment proposals for DRL/low beam switching thresholds, adaptive DRL, and Class V ECO mode. Annual energy saving potentials range from 55 GWh to 141 GWh across evaluated use cases, with highest savings from DRL intensity adaptation and reduced low beam in city nighttime driving.

The proposal removes restrictions on direction indicator lamps used for answer-back activation of already type-approved light-signalling functions, while maintaining prohibitions on front fog lamps, rear fog lamps, and stop lamps.

Proposal to amend para. 6.24.9.2. to clarify that approved lamps emitting white light, rear position lamps, parking lamps, side-marker lamps and end-outline marker lamps may be switched ON as exterior courtesy lamps, and that paragraphs 6.24.9.3., 6.24.9.4., and the conditions of paragraphs 5.11. and 5.12. are not applicable to these approved lamps. The clarification confirms that paragraph 6.24.9.2. allows the coexistence and simultaneous operation of approved lamps without re-classifying them as exterior courtesy lamps and without subjecting them to exterior courtesy lamp-specific concealment requirements.
