AI-Enabled Road Vehicles Managing a Complex Standards Landscape presents the current landscape of standards and regulations for AI in road vehicles, structured overview of core AI governance, engineering, organisational and data governance standards required for EU AI Act conformity and UNECE compliance, and identifies gaps and challenges in alignment. ISO 8800 (2029) Road vehicles Safety of Artificial Intelligence is proposed as a common framework providing navigation and connection across horizontal AI standards with automotive sector-specific needs, reducing fragmentation and enabling transparent, traceable evidence-based assurance for regulators, industry and society while supporting compliance with EU AI Act and future UNECE requirements.

The working draft specifies child presence detection surrogates with geometric, optical, near-infrared, radar-related and physiological properties representing newborn to 6-year-old children. Core clauses and three normative annexes address surrogate classes, dimensional tables, visual and near-infrared recognition properties, and radar-specific recognition properties. Open technical decisions include radar bands by region, respiration data by surrogate class, motion requirements as mandatory versus optional, optical and near-infrared clothing details, validation methods and measurement procedures, and dimensional alignment with Euro NCAP standards.

ISO 362-3:2022 specifies an engineering method for measuring pass-by sound level of a vehicle under controlled indoor conditions using a semi-anechoic chamber. The 2022 edition incorporates technological advancements and improves usability and accuracy of the measurement procedure. Improvements include additional microphones, tire temperature correction harmonized with UN R51.03, clarified indoor room qualification criteria, and normalized torque influence equation. Transitional provisions propose accepting ISO 362-3:2022 for all approvals from entry into force of Supplement 11, while ISO 362-3:2016 remains accepted for five years thereafter.
