Pursuant to the introduction of the deceleration method for measuring tire rolling resistance using the dω/dt approach (“Deceleration Calculator”) proposed by NAMI and accepted by GRB, UTAC (France) provides information on the results of tests conducted to confirm repeatability and reproducibility of the new method using different machines.

Proposal to delete the requirement for automatic leveling devices for all headlamps with light emitting diode (LED) light sources based upon the results of the GTB glare study. The proposal argues that the restriction discriminates against LED light sources based upon an erroneous understanding of light-source relevance to driver glare.

Proposal to delete the requirement that the total objective luminous flux of all LED modules producing the principal passing (main low) beam of a headlamp be greater than or equal to 1000 lumens because the requirement is design-restrictive, unnecessary given the objective criteria for luminous output and photometric grid points of the regulation, and obsolete given improvements in LED technologies.

Proposal to correct an inconsistency between the regulation text and Figure B of Annex 3.

European countries are considering new requirements to require the fitment of snow tyres for use in severe snow conditions on specific axles of heavy duty vehicles. New tyres are approved under UN R117; however, a large percentage of heavy duty vehicles are fitted with retreaded tyres which are outside the scope of UN R117. This proposal would transpose the relevant requirements for new snow tyres into UN R109 in order of avoid the exclusion of retreaded tyres from such applications/markets.

Proposal for corrections to the draft Supplement 5 to the regulation. The draft supplement aims to refine definitions, removes the “AWD” abbeviation for “audible warning device” to avoid confusion with its more common use for “all wheel drive”, adds T category agricultural vehicles to the scope, modifies some administrative communications, and proposes three-direction acoustic measurements.

Proposal to improve the wording of the draft amendment on lane-keeping assistance systems, based on document GRRF-79-04.

The current text of UN R54 does not encompass the case where a tyre designed for a “special” application can also fulfil the definition of a “snow” tyre. This proposal would allow for such tyres to be marked with the inscription M+S, M.S, or M&S while remaining in the category of use “special”.

Proposal to introduce phase 2 amendments related to the booster seat category (booster seat with backrest) into UN R129. The text includes all modifications proposed by GRSP up to and including its 57th session (Geneva, 18–22 May 2015) as well as those of the IWG CRS up to and including its 53rd session (London, 2 September 2015). The proposal builds on the original UN Regulation No. 129, Corrigendum 1, Supplements 1, 2, 3 and 4 as well as the draft 01 series of amendments to the UN Regulation (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRSP/2015/24) Phase 1.

Proposal to limit the use of a booster cushion (booster seat without backrest) with children of a stature greater than 125 cm and the application for type approval of such CRS only in mass Group III for children of mass from 22 kg to 36 kg. The proposal is submitted on behalf of the CRS informal working group.

Proposal to clarify the texts related to the recently expanded height requirements for the effective upper belt anchorage (Supplement 4 to the 07 series of amendments to Regulation No. 14).
