The expert from GTB presented an update on energy saving opportunities in automotive lighting (GRE-94-54) and identified adapting the intensity of daytime running lamps (DRL) and reducing low beam in city areas at night as having the highest saving potential. GRE decided to revert to this topic at the next session.
46. The expert from the Republic of Korea briefed GRE on Phase II of the Informal Working Group on Children Left In Vehicles (IWG CLIV) which aimed at drafting a new UN Regulation for vehicle categories M1, M2, M3 and N1 (GRE-94-15-Rev.1), including requirements on audible and visual warnings upon successful detection of a CLIV event. IWG CLIV requested guidance from GRE on which amendments would be required for UN Regulation No. 48. In this context, the experts from Japan and OICA recalled the GRE discussion on the call for help signal (paras. 12 and 13 above). The Chair encouraged GRE experts to participate in the IWG CLIV work.
