Headlamps may produce Driver Assistance Projections under UN R48 if the pertinent requirements of UN R149 are fulfilled. In order to have a clear statement whether the approval of the headlamp include this ability or not it is proposed to integrate this information in the communication form in Annex 1 of UN R149.

This paper has been submitted by the expert from Australia to clarify with the GRE if/where lamps other than those defined/specified in UN Regulation No. 48, including external optical signals to indicate the operating status of a trailer system, can be fitted to vehicles in conformity with this Regulation.

Proposal to introduce longer transitional provisions for heavy commercial vehicles and trailers

In paragraph 3.1. of Annex 4, Part 1 the position of the photometer head, the reference axis and the directions are clearly described. If the surface reflection is on the opposite side of the source from the photometer head, which is given at an angle of (β1 = -5°), the surface reflection has no influence on the measurement. This is true for the measurement of RI values as well as for colour measurement.
The proposed solution is based on an existing description in UN Regulation No. 27 (namely paragraph 2.6. of Annex 6) concerning the procedure to follow in case of a surface reflection for both colour measurement and CIL measurement.

Proposal from the SLR informal group to align UN R48 with the 01series of amendments to UN R149 (road illumination devices). Para. 6.2.8.2. concerns the requirement for failure tell-tale of passing-beam headlamps (presence and activation) which only covers LED modules. The amendment proposes technology-neutral language. The proposal aims to complete the requirements to enable mandatory installation of headlamps approved to UN R149.01 per the request of the European Commission.
