Proposal prepared by the Task Force on Automated Vehicles Regulatory Screening (TF-AVRS), with the aim to amend and supersede document ECE/TRANS/GRSG/2025/18.

The proposal seeks to clarify that Field of Vision Assistant (FVA) are not to be considered with regard to the visibility requirement during night and day in paragraph 5.2., since the speed displayed by the FVA is not the primary source of information.

Proposal to clarify that FVA displays indicating vehicle speed or distance traveled are not considered to be onboard speedometers or odometers for the purposes of paragraphs 5.1. and 5.2. of UN R39.

Proposal from the GRSG task force on Automated Vehicles Regulation Screening to clarify that an odometer display is not required for ADS vehicles of subcategories X and
Y (but if fitted, shall comply with the relevant provisions) and that requirements related to speedometers do not apply to these vehicles as well as to any ADS vehicle while an ADS feature of type 2 is active.

Proposal to amend and extend the existing requirements for odometers to include provisions on:

1. accuracy of the on-board odometer mileage values,
2. anti-tampering of the on-board odometer mileage values and
3. accuracy and anti-tampering of the odometer mileage values displayed to the driver.
