Correction to the text of the proposed amendment to introduce a calculated engine speed for manual transmission vehicles and for continuously variable transmission (CVT)/automatic transmission (AT) with locked gear mechanism into UN Regulation No. 41.

Under the current 04 series of amendments to UN Regulation No. 41, the engine speed should be measured during all tests in Annex 3 and Annex 7 (Additional sound emission provisions – ASEP). However, IMMA has found that there is very little difference between the measured and the calculated engine speed for a manual transmission (MT) vehicle (Annex, figure 1) and no impact on the test result (Annex, figure 2). Therefore, this proposal would introduce a calculated engine speed for MT vehicles and for continuously variable transmission (CVT)/automatic transmission (AT) with locked gear mechanism into UN Regulation No. 41.

The purpose of this proposal is to update the reference to the latest version of the ISO 10844 and to introduce transitional provisions for the shift of the test track requirements from ISO 10844: 1994 to ISO 10844: 2014.

This proposal would correct the reference to the latest version of ISO 10844 and introduce transitional provisions for shift of the test track from ISO 10844:1994 to ISO 10844:2011.

Proposal by the WP.29 secretariat to consider amending the Consolidated Resolution to adhere with provisions of the UN Regulations concerning noise limits. Presently, the resolution (which provides a framework and general reference for UN Regulations) permits a 5 db(A) tolerance in measuring noise levels while the UN Regulations 51, 41 and 63 referred to in the resolution permit narrower margins of 1 db(A) or 3 db(A).
