Presentation by the head of the EU-funded COMPANION project to test and validate heavy-duty vehicle-to-vehicle platooning technologies. The program is aimed at gathering real-world experience with heavy vehicles formation of and interaction with connected vehicle platoons.

Motor vehicle manufacturer perspectives and recommendations towards defining uniform classifications, terms, and references to facilitate discussions on requirements for autonomous vehicle technologies.

Proposal to amend the 1968 Vienna Convention to allow for the use of assistance and/or autonomous systems that control vehicle behavior(s) in place of the driver (which could be viewed to conflict with the Convention requirement that drivers always be able to control their vehicles).

Presentation on currently available and emerging driver-assistance technologies and their relation to the levels of vehicle automation (e.g., from full driver control to fully autonomous vehicle).

Proposal to focus the ITS informal group on automated driving systems, technologies, and policy concerns towards the eventual development of harmonized global procedures and requirements where product regulation is warranted. Under the proposal, the ITS group would be renamed the Informal Group on ITS/Automated Driving (IG-AD).

Note prepared by the WP.29 secretariat to support discussion of a request for guidance on how to address within the World Forum the various advanced driver assistance and automated vehicle systems.

Initial draft terms of reference to enable the informal group to begin its work and offered as a proposal for approval “in principle” with the expectation that it will be further refined by the group.
