Proposal to expand the scope of the activity to include C2 and C3 tyres.

Proposal from the TPMSTI task force to revise the communication interface protocol of TPMS between towing and towed vehicles of categories N2, N3 and O3, O4, respectively (described in Annex 5 on the basis of the ISO bus requirements) in alignment with UN R13 and ISO updates. The proposal further corrects and clarifies provisions across TPMS, TPRS and CTIS.

Proposal to correct some references, which need to be updated as a consequence of document WP.29/2020/70, adopted at the June 2020 WP.29 session, notably

1. Paragraph 5.4.1 renumbered as paragraph 5.5.1.
2. Paragraphs 5.4. and 5.5. respectively renumbered as paragraphs 5.5. and 5.6.

Overview of UTAC CERAM testing designed to consider the impact of additional tightening of tyre performance limits on the balance
between legal requirements (rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling sound emission) and other performance aspects not subject to legal requirements.

Measurement Uncertainties informal group proposal to clarify the text and to amend:

1. Annex 3, Paragraph 1.4. to delete determination of the vehicle speed by independent speed measuring devices
2. Annex 3, Paragraph 1.5. to clarify that no determination of the wind speed is needed for indoor testing
3. Annex 3, Paragraph 2.1.3. to clarify and differentiate between indoor and outdoor testing
4. Annex 3, Paragraph 2.1.3.1.2. to clarify the temperature range for indoor facilities.
5. Annex 3, Paragraph 2.1.3.2.2. to clarify the temperature range for outdoor facilities.

Proposal to clarify:

1. Signature of the 3PMSF test reports
2. Mould cure retreaded tyre (not UN R117 pattern).

Proposal by expert from Switzerland to limit the maximum sound level of an “AVAS” and reduce superfluous noise pollution.

The Task Force on Vehicles’ Sound (TF-VS) was established to review sound emissions regulations for M, N, and L category vehicles under UN Regulations 51, 9, 28, 41, 59, 63, 92, 117, and 138. The TF-VS will identify available studies, analyze data including Phase 3, review interactions between vehicle sound emissions and environmental noise, and propose improvements. THe group is chaired by France with OICA as Secretary and will focus initially on M and N vehicles.

Proposal to add requirement on the monitoring of the machine deviation for rolling resistance measurement.

The purpose is to ensure that the target test speed is either 10 km/h, or 20 km/h, in forward motion, or 6 km/h in reverse motion and that the tolerances given by the regulation are linked to the testing and not used for more favorable testing speed.

Request for additional data and information in the event of a future, similar, proposal under the 1998 Agreement, which would require ensuring compatibility with other enforcement systems.

This revised document intended to present to amend 117 the timetable for the work related to Regulation No. 117 has been shifted with approximately 12 months for this part.
The aim of the IWG is to propose harmonized measures for evaluating systematic errors and random errors to improve the test procedures to reduce measurement uncertainties

IWG on Measurement Uncertainties identified the temperature behaviour of tyre rolling sound component as a contributor to the measurement uncertainty of pass-by noise tests. Since in UN Reg. No.117 a temperature correction of tyre rolling sound is already established the group investigated an adoption of the existing calculation procedure. Due to the different testing conditions in UN Reg. No.117, new scientific investigations and industry data in pass-by testing the group worked out a temperature correction, which is adopted to the requirements of UN Reg. No.51.
