The collective amendment presented in GRE/2016/34 extends the usage of LED light sources of UN R128 to front lighting Regulations Nos. 19, 98, 112, 113 and 123. The introduction of LED light source categories under UN R128 for forward lighting applications (front fog, low beam, high beam,
AFS) is planned for 2017. This presentation explains the plans, timeline, and dependencies GTB proposes to address through the collective amendment, especially within the context of the simplification of lighting regulations program.

Proposal from the Informal Working for a new Resolution on light sources to simplify the content and amendment process for the light-source regulations UN R37, 99 and 128. The data sheets for light sources are moved from Annexes 1 of these Regulations to the draft Resolution. In addition, the draft phases out some filament light source categories (per the earlier document GRE/2015/29), add new LED categories LW3, LY3, LR5, LW5, and LY5 (per document GRE/2015/30), and aligns drawings of category LR4 with drawings of these new categories. These latter items were all approved during the 74th GRE session.

Proposal from the informal working group on the Simplification of Lighting Regulations to consolidate data sheets for light-source categories (UN R37 on filament lamps, UN R99 on gas-discharge light sources, and UN R128 on LED light sources). Moreover, the proposals to phase out some filament light source categories (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/2015/29), to introduce new LED light source categories LW3, LY3, LR5, LW5 and LY5 and to align some drawings of category LR4 (ECE/TRANS/WP.29/GRE/2015/30), all adopted by the Working Party on Lighting and Light-Signalling at its seventy-fourth session, were merged with this proposal.
