43. The Secretary of the Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety (WP.1) reported on the results of its recent session that were of interest to GRE (GRE-94-52). In particular, the representatives from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and from GTB made a presentation on direction indicator projections which triggered positive reactions of WP.1 participants. WP.1 was also informed about potential inconsistencies between the Vienna Convention (1968) and the recent amendments to UN Regulations on lighting and light-signalling, as previously identified by GRE (GRE-93-11-Rev.1), but had not yet reviewed them in detail.

44. Given the cross-cutting WP.1 and GRE issues, GRE believed that a closer cooperation was required between the two bodies. To this end, GRE spoke in favour of reactivating the former practice of appointing an expert as “GRE ambassador” to WP.1 who would participate in WP.1 sessions. GRE sought volunteers for this position.
