This discussion document has been prepared to provide more explanation of the initial proposal submitted by GTB to WP29 at its 157th session in June 2012 (WP29-157-12 and now transformed as ECE/TRANS/WP.29/2012/119 for WP29-158 ).

Document GRE-68-02 from the Working Party “Brussels 1952” (GTB) proposes to amend the geometric visibility provisions of multiple lighting regulations. Since manufacturers have already developed lighting in line with the current definitions, OICA seeks a 48-month transition period.

Document GRE/2012/29 proposes to clarify the requirements for the mandatory manual override of the automatic/adaptive driving beam (ADB) function. While agreeing with the sub-menu prohibition, OICA proposes to delete the prohibition on “multi-step operations” so as not to restrict future designs.

Document GRE/2012/44 would extend the scope of UN R10 to all kinds of power train systems above a certain working voltage level when they are in charging mode and enable the type approval of separate electrical components (ESA). OICA corrects and clarifies several points from the earlier proposal.

Document GRE-68-04 is a proposal to insert provisions for the use of light source control gear in the case of halogen incandescent light sources. This proposal deletes limits on the main passing beam and responds to concerns raised by IEC in document GRE-67-30.

GRE/2012/26 is a proposal from the Working Party “Brussels 1952” (GTB) to update provisions on heat resistance tests. This correction from GTB provides an improved justification for the proposed amendments.

Document GRE/2012/39 ( a proposal to introduce interdependent lamps (“Y” Lamps) into UN R87) did not take into account document WP.29/2012/78 submitted for adoption by WP.29 at its 158th (November 2012) session. Therefore, GTB proposes this new document to replace GRE/2012/39.

GRE/2012/40 is a proposal from the Working Party “Brussels 1952” (GTB) introducing a new category LW2 into the new draft Regulation for LED light sources [UN R127] and introducing some editorial amendments to the existing text. GTB proposes this correction to better align its wording with UN R37.

GTB presentation on the potential ramifications of the electronic type-approval database (DETA) on lighting markings and regulations. GTB plans to discuss these issues at its Oct 29- 1 Nov 2012 assembly in Seattle (USA).

UN R7 has no requirements concerning changes in luminance of a lamp. Therefore, certain lamps which could not be installed in accordance with UN R48 could nonetheless obtain type approval and be sold in the aftermarket. This proposal would prevent such an occurrence.
