Pursuant to Canadian testing, the US and Canada do not see a need for additional testing of electric vehicles (as opposed to ICE vehicles) because the battery and electric systems do not show any cause for special concern in vehicle fires. Proposal to include in the testing of REESS physical integrity such vehicle structural elements as may have an impact on test results. In other words, the manufacturer may request protective body elements to be included in the test set up.

The isolation monitoring system monitors the isolation resistance of the vehicle system periodically or continuously and warns if isolation loss is detected. Japan proposes this requirement in order to signal problems with isolation so the vehicle can be brought in for service before the failure reaches higher severity where the occupant could receive an electrical shock.
