A new informal working group on Supporting technical experts on Lighting Regulation (SteLR) will be established, chaired by EC and vice-chaired by Germany, to address remaining open points from SLR and TF-GP. Main topics include visibility of signalling functions, glare prevention, apparent surface, energy saving, replaceability and sustainability, and V2X communication. |

| UN R149: Visibility improvements and glare |

The document discusses amendments to UN R149 regarding road illumination device requirements. Illuminance and light intensity requirements have been amended multiple times over 16 years. The basis for type approval was adapted to 13.2 volts, increasing required values by approximately 40 per cent. In the 01 series, maximum values at 50L increased by a factor of 4 to improve visibility and pedestrian recognition. On dual carriageways, headlamp illuminance should exceed 8 lx@25m in point E50R/L and 16 lx@25m in point E75R. On motorways, E75R should exceed 36 lx@25m with half those values in E50L. However, increased light intensity increases glare risk for oncoming vehicles, particularly with levelling changes due to load. |

Proposal to correct inconsistencies and calculation errors in Conformity of Production (CoP) tables across both series of UN R149, which may otherwise cause confusion for manufacturers and technical services. In UN R149-00, corrections include: deletion of erroneous maximum values at point 50L in CoP tables for Classes C, V and W Bend Light; correction of miscalculated 20% and 30% CoP minimum values for Classes C and V Bend Light Category 1; correction of the Class W non-bending mode maximum value at Segment 10 and its derived CoP values; and correction of rounding errors in Class R CoP minimum values. In UN R149-01, corrections include: updating the Class W Bend Light CoP maximum at point BR to align with the type-approval table; correcting miscalculated Class R Bend Lighting CoP values; and fixing table note references in Annex 4 following the introduction of scientific notation in the 01 series.
