Additional information complementing IMMA document EPPR-22-02.

Proposal to clarify under para. 2.2.3 the conditions under which multiple exhaust versions’ results may be listed on a single R41 approval certificate. The current text may be strictly interpreted as requiring separate certification for every possible configuration, such as differences in exhaust systems, intakes or engine displacements. The proposal aims to improve efficiency and effectiveness of type approval procedures.

Proposal to clarify the text with regard to the activation of the direction indicators when the motorcycle engine in order to signal the vehicle status. The proposal would specify the purposes for which indicators may be activated:

1. To show the vehicle status (e.g. locking system) when the vehicle is parked;
2. To allow the driver to recognize the presence of his/her own vehicle from a certain distance by remote control;
3. In case of keyless entry system and of the driver having lost the key fob while riding – to inform the driver that he/she no longer has the key fob and that the vehicle will soon become unable to restart.

Proposal to allow installation of exterior courtesy lamps on motorcycles by aligning the text with provisions on courtesy lamps in UN R48.

Proposal to align UN R50 and UN R53 regarding the inward geometric visibility requirements for rear position lamps.

Proposal to update the definition of “stop lamp” in order to allow the use of different stop lamp activation methods for powered two-wheelers as currently applicable for four-wheelers; e.g. by the application of a retarder or a similar device.

Updated version of document GRRF/2017/14 to amend UN R78 with regard to stop lamp activation. IMMA has proposed (document GRE/2015/42) to allow stop lamp activation under UN R53 through means other than application of the brakes (e.g., by electric vehicle regenerative braking). This proposal accordingly amends UN R78 regarding generation of the brake signal.

Proposal to align the angle of visibility requirements for rear position lamps with the angle of visibility requirements for front position lamps. This proposal corresponds with a related proposal on Regulation No. 53 (GRE/2018/28).

In response to discussions over the application of Revision 3 to the 1958 Agreement concerning extensions of approvals granted prior to Revision 3, IMMA presents an example from UN R50 where application of Revision 3 presents concerns.

OICA and IMMA comments on the new procedures of Revision 3 to the 1958 Agreement concerning the retroactive application of Supplements to extensions of type approvals.

Request from IMMA to delay the development of over-the-air update provisions for motorcycles and related L-category vehicles.

In informal document GRB-66-12, Germany suggested making ASEP testing mandatory under UN R41.
This proposal from IMMA amends UN R41 towards the application of ASEP test procedures.

In order to resolve the inconsistent use of the wording “motorcycle” or “category L vehicle” or others, IMMA recommends replacing the “motorcycle” by “category L vehicle” at each occurrence.

IMMA is concerned about unbounded use of radio transmitters during riding because of the risk of distraction and to see immunity testing by means of an on-board transmitter simulation (per ISO 11451-3).
