The International Whole Vehicle Type Approval system under development within WP.29 would encompass a host of individual subsystem UN Regulations. This document reviews the current thinking on the UN Regulations implicated in IWVTA and their application within this context for review by GRE.

WP.29 Session 155 adopted Supplement 3 to the 03 series of amendments to UN R19, which automatically also applies to the 04 series. However, the photometric table of para. 6.4.3 approved in the 03 series differs from that of the 04 series. Therefore, GTB proposes a correction to the 04 series.

IEC has serious concerns with the proposal to clarify the conditions under which voltage control gear may be used in conjunction with filament light sources because halogen filament light sources should not be operated permanently outside the specifications, at a too low or at too high voltage.

During the preparation of the proposal in GRE/2012/7 to update the definition of “type”, the corresponding amendment to Regulation No. 31 was unintentionally omitted. This addendum completes the collective amendment.

Proposal to clarify the deletion of distributed lighting systems (DLS), or rather light generators, from the Regulations No. 19, 48 and 98, because the provisions for the DLS systems are incomplete. This deletion was never fully completed and in the meantime these systems have become obsolete.

regulation prior to an application for approval under UN R10. It appears that LED retrofit light sources are offered to the market with Regulation No. 10 approval only where they should also be subject to the new UN R127.

During the 64th GRE session, GTB was charged to review and update the transitional provisions of Regulation 48. This draft proposal has been developed by the GTB Installation Working Group in close cooperation with OICA.

Document GRE-68-02 from the Working Party “Brussels 1952” (GTB) proposes to amend the geometric visibility provisions of multiple lighting regulations. Since manufacturers have already developed lighting in line with the current definitions, OICA seeks a 48-month transition period.

Document GRE/2012/29 proposes to clarify the requirements for the mandatory manual override of the automatic/adaptive driving beam (ADB) function. While agreeing with the sub-menu prohibition, OICA proposes to delete the prohibition on “multi-step operations” so as not to restrict future designs.

GRE/2012/26 is a proposal from the Working Party “Brussels 1952” (GTB) to update provisions on heat resistance tests. This correction from GTB provides an improved justification for the proposed amendments.

Document GRE/2012/39 ( a proposal to introduce interdependent lamps (“Y” Lamps) into UN R87) did not take into account document WP.29/2012/78 submitted for adoption by WP.29 at its 158th (November 2012) session. Therefore, GTB proposes this new document to replace GRE/2012/39.

GRE/2012/40 is a proposal from the Working Party “Brussels 1952” (GTB) introducing a new category LW2 into the new draft Regulation for LED light sources [UN R127] and introducing some editorial amendments to the existing text. GTB proposes this correction to better align its wording with UN R37.

UN R7 has no requirements concerning changes in luminance of a lamp. Therefore, certain lamps which could not be installed in accordance with UN R48 could nonetheless obtain type approval and be sold in the aftermarket. This proposal would prevent such an occurrence.
