Demonstrations tested pedestrian and electric bicycle protection across Shanghai, Deqing, and Beijing. Key implementation challenges include sensor perception accuracy, direct communication device installation barriers and low penetration, and cloud construction responsibility allocation for cellular communication solutions.

The proposal permits X and Y vehicles to use alternative materials for windscreens given their 6 kph speed restriction. The proposal further permits translucence levels below 70% for ADS vehicles while an ADS feature is active (i.e., performing the DDT).

Proposal to adapt UN Regulation No. 162 (Immobilisers) for automated driving system (ADS) vehicles. Supplement 6 extends the regulation to vehicles without drivers or manual controls, including category X and Y1 vehicles and those with ADS operating above 6 km/h. The amendment defines two ADS feature types and modifies immobilizer requirements to account for vehicles lacking traditional ignition systems and driver controls. Requirements for remote-controlled maneuvering and authorized digital keys are clarified.

The EDR-DSSAD informal group approved definitions for detected objects and recording parameters, established language for power and communication failures, and agreed to a -2.5-second to 300-millisecond recording interval for rollover events. Discussions on fire-resistant data storage and automated emergency braking recording intervals remain unresolved. The group deferred decisions on EDR requirements for automated driving systems pending further analysis of overlap with DSSAD regulations.

Proposal to amend the text to enable its application to ADS vehicles.

Draft specific guidance for vehicle types that are based on another vehicle type. This specific guidance is without prejudice to national procedures (e.g. as defined in the R155 methods and criteria) and applies to various use cases, such as vehicles developed, produced and/or sold in collaboration with another manufacturer, completed and transformed vehicles, “multi-stage” vehicles, etc.

Proposal to set clear criteria for manufacturers of transformed vehicles to determine when a given transformed vehicle needs or needs not undergo a more detailed cyber security review according to the processes for transformed vehicles currently being discussed by the GRVA workshop on cybers ecurity and software updates.

UN R156 requires administrative provisions under the 1958 Agreement to demonstrate that vehicles comply with its requirements at specific points in time, not solely at market placement. The action plan involves developing a numbering system for amending approval extensions to account for software updates, considering how updates impact existing type approvals, and reviewing related 1958 Agreement aspects.
