4. GRSP resumed discussion on the difficulties of opening electrically activated doors, based on an introduction from the expert from the Republic of Korea. The expert from Germany indicated that they had started to look into this issue and saw an urgent need to start detailed discussion in order to find solutions to ensure safe opening of the doors after an accident. Germany offered to organise an online meeting of interested parties. The expert from the United States of America clarified that these problems were not exclusive to electric vehicles, but rather to all vehicles with electrically activated doors. The expert from the Netherlands informed GRSP that the Euro NCAP working group “Rescue & Extrication” had already published online some related protocols which could serve as a starting point for the discussion. The expert from Korea added that Korea-NCAP was also looking into the issue and that potential solutions might not be limited to regulating door latches. The expert from the Kingdom of the Netherlands said that this was an important issue for their country as they had multiple deaths per year as a consequence of passengers not being able to escape from submerged vehicles. He added that public education was also an important aspect.
5. The experts from Korea, Germany, United States of America, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Sweden, China, Australia, OICA and CLEPA expressed their support for the initiative and intention to participate in the online meeting organized by Germany. The invitation to the meeting will be circulated to all GRSP participants.
